Job Summary

Under regular direction and in compliance with standard operating procedures and policies, performs professional and technical duties in support of Public Works safety and training programs. Conducts classroom, hands-on, Commercial Driver's License (CDL), behind-the-wheel, and equipment training for Public Works employees. Coordinates training activities with department divisions and assists the Safety & Training Manager with the implementation and continuous improvement of departmental safety and training programs. Responds to accident and incident locations, including after hours if needed and gathers relevant information through photographs, statements, records, sketches, video, and other appropriate documentation. Administers the department's Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) program and maintains related inventory and records. Supports CDL training and testing activities and ensures applicable training and inspection documentation is properly completed. Conducts safety inspections of Public Works facilities, work sites, vehicles, equipment, and storage areas; identifies and documents unsafe conditions and work practices; provides immediate safety coaching when appropriate; and recommends corrective actions. Assists with accident and incident investigations, documentation, recordkeeping, and safety-data analysis. Participates in the Public Works Safety Committee as a subject matter resource and assists Public Works during emergency, storm, and weather-related operations.
