Hearings Officer

The Agency's mission is to be boldly innovative in improving the health and quality of life for South Carolinians. This position is located in Appeals and Hearings, Richland County. This is an in-office role and not a telecommute or remote position. Are you the One? We are looking for a Hearings Officer who, under the Program Manager II's supervision, serves as a hearing officer in the Division of Appeals and Hearings, presides over Medicaid fair hearings and appeals, and serves as a team player by providing program guidance and consultations to other hearing officers.

Responsibilities include maintaining an active caseload as a hearing officer, providing beneficiaries with due process, researching and analyzing cases, preparing for hearings, ruling on motions, ensuring due process is afforded to parties, and performing other duties as assigned by the program manager. Minimum and additional requirements include a bachelor's degree and experience in social services or administrative hearings, occasional overnight travel, driving requirements, overtime and weekend work with Deputy approval, and physical requirements such as sitting or standing for long periods and lifting up to 20 lbs. Valid driver's license is required for an in-office role.

Preferred qualifications include thorough knowledge of Medicaid and/or Social Security Disability laws, regulations, and policies, excellent reasoning and writing skills, proficient communication skills, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
