EHS Specialist for Waste and Chemical Management

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Managing RCRA Hazardous Waste LQG requirements to include hazardous waste determinations, training, labeling, storage and disposal processes to meet regulatory compliance
  • Managing the site solid waste and recycling program duties include waste minimization, waste segregation, waste disposal and sustainability efforts
  • Preparation and submitting documentation and reports required by RCRA (Hazardous Waste Generator), EPCRA (Tier II and TRI), TSCA (CDR and import), and other EPA regulations
  • Management of personnel supporting hazardous waste, solid waste, and recycling processes
  • Managing RCRA, DOT, IATA regulatory training for site and supporting shipping determinations, packaging and labeling of hazardous substances
  • Managing Hazardous Communication requirements and chemical approvals
  • Interpreting local, state, and federal environmental regulations
  • Working with, and building relationships with environmental regulators and inspectors
  • Project management and Continuous Improvement of Environmental Equipment and compliance processes, including auditing
  • Support of Health and Safety Initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, or other relevant field is required
  • Minimum of 3+ years environmental experience including environmental compliance, industrial data collection and report preparation. Experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus.
  • Demonstrated capabilities in understanding and applying USEPA and SCDES regulations to real-world situations

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience with RCRA hazardous waste management and DOT regulatory compliance at manufacturing facilities.
  • Knowledge of chemical management programs including Hazardous Communications, EPCRA, SARA and TSCA.
  • This position will also include multimedia (ex: water permitting, stormwater, and air permit) compliance tasks, so previous experience in these areas is desirable.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, the ability to clearly and concisely communicate scientific issues to technical and non-technical persons
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve problems and improve compliance-based programs.
  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute projects.
