Greenville Independent School District Work Schedule: 226 Days Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt Reports to: Director of Infrastructure Position Overview Greenville ISD is seeking a skilled and experienced Network Technician to support and maintain the district's network infrastructure, computer systems, and security systems. This position provides technical support and plays a key role in ensuring reliable technology functionality across all campuses and departments.
Primary Purpose Install, test, maintain, and troubleshoot district network systems, hardware, personal computers, software, and related technologies. Diagnose and resolve technical issues to ensure efficient, secure, and reliable performance in support of instructional and operational needs.
Qualifications Education / Certification: High school diploma or GED required Associate degree in computer science, information systems, or related field preferred Industry certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, S+, Cisco CCNA, or equivalent) preferred Special Knowledge / Skills: Knowledge of network infrastructure, including switches, routers, wireless systems, and cabling Knowledge of network protocols, IP addressing, and connectivity troubleshooting Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical and network issues Knowledge of network security practices and system monitoring Ability to install, configure, and maintain network hardware, computer hardware, and software Strong problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills Ability to communicate technical information effectively to staff Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism Strong customer support experience Experience: Experience working with technology services support teams Experience in a school district or large organization preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties Technical Support Provide technical support to campuses and departments Assist with campus or department help desk requests and complex troubleshooting Assist end users on campuses to identify needs and correct problems Work with software and hardware vendors to maintain appropriate product support Assist with district security cameras, door access controls, and emergency systems as required Network Support & Maintenance Assist with the installation of network equipment including switches, routers, and wireless access points as needed Assist in monitoring network performance and troubleshoot connectivity issues Perform routine maintenance, upgrades, and system updates Infrastructure & Systems Management Assist with installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of network and server equipment Assist network administrator with network documentation, diagrams, and configurations as needed Support cybersecurity practices and system protections Equipment & Asset Management Maintain inventory of network equipment and technology assets Assist with installation and deployment of new technology systems Ensure proper configuration and operation of district technology resources Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required Collaboration & Support Work collaboratively with Technology Department staff and campus personnel Support district initiatives, technology rollouts, assessments, and upgrades Professional Responsibilities Participate in professional development and technical training Follow district technology standards, procedures, and safety protocols Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local Board policy Perform other duties as assigned Supervisory Responsibilities None Working Conditions Physical Demands: Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting equipment (up to 50 pounds) Ability to install and maintain network hardware in various environments Environmental Factors: Work in office and campus environments across the district Occasional travel between campuses May work in confined spaces (closets, server rooms) Mental Demands: Ability to manage multiple technical tasks and priorities Maintain emotional control and problem-solving focus under pressure Work on-call and after hours What a Day in the Life Looks Like A typical day as a Network Technician in Greenville ISD is dynamic and service-focused.
