This position plays an important role in helping underserved communities gain access to quality eye care through screenings, exams, education, and patient support.The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a mobile clinical environment, enjoys community outreach, and is adaptable to changing schedules and locations. Outreach events are currently concentrated in the Upstate region, with expanding outreach efforts into Kershaw County and additional areas across the state. As the organization continues to grow statewide, this role will require travel throughout South Carolina.This position is currently PRN/as-needed with the opportunity to grow into a part-time role as the organization expands.This position reports directly to the Practice Director.Compensation$20–$25 per hour based on experience and qualificationsMileage reimbursement provided for approved travel related to mobile clinic outreach eventsKey ResponsibilitiesAssist optometrists and/or ophthalmologists during mobile clinic eventsPerform preliminary testing including visual acuity, auto-refraction, tonometry, and OCT/retinal imaging as applicablePrepare patients for examinations and explain procedures clearly and professionallyDocument patient information accurately in paper recordsMaintain cleanliness, organization, and readiness of the mobile clinic and equipmentAssist with patient flow, scheduling, and intake during outreach eventsSupport community outreach efforts with professionalism and compassionHelp load, unload, and set up equipment when necessaryFollow HIPAA, safety, and infection control standards at all timesTravel to outreach locations throughout South Carolina as scheduledQualificationsExperience in optometry or ophthalmology preferredExperience with ophthalmic testing equipment strongly preferredCompany Description Servants for Sight was formed in 2009 by physicians in Greenville, SC. Now, our mission is to follow the model of Jesus by bringing hope and healing to our communities through preventative and restorative eye care.We develop community partnerships and involve like-minded individuals to help thousands of people get the gift of sight. We are a nonprofit organization and serve those in need by:Providing vision screenings and exams on our mobile unit.Referring disadvantaged people in the Upstate of South Carolina to our volunteering eye care practitioners. Physicians donate their expertise while Servants for Sight funds the “out of pocket” costs such as: lenses, glasses, and surgery fees.Training Christian mission groups to include vision screenings and glasses as part of their mission trips. Servants for Sight provides all necessary training, equipment and supplies. Payment for glasses is not required, however; donations are greatly appreciated.
