Senior Inspector - Construction Services (CEI)

If you're an experienced Inspector or Senior Inspector in Construction Services, our Construction Engineering Inspection (CEI) group is GROWING and looking for your expertise in South Carolina! Position is listed in Columbia, SC, but we're open to all areas of South Carolina. As a Senior Inspector, you will be responsible for performing highly complex technical assignments in field surveying and construction layout, making and checking engineering computations, inspecting construction work, and conducting field tests. You will also be responsible for coordinating and managing the lower-level inspectors and are expected to perform under the general supervision of the Project Manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Daily documentation of contractor's work efforts.
  • Project coordination with Contractor's field personnel and utility owners.
  • Project field book preparation and documentation.
  • Earthwork Construction logbook preparation and documentation.
  • Material sampling and testing.
  • Assist with the preparation of the Final Estimate package.
  • Measure distances to verify the accuracy of construction activity/layout dimensions.
  • Verify levels, alignment, and elevation of construction activity/installations.
  • Observe work in progress to ensure that procedures followed, and materials used conform to specifications.
  • Obtain and prepare material samples for laboratory testing.
  • Examine the workmanship of finished installations for conformity to standard and accepts installation.
  • Record quantities of materials received or used during specified periods.
  • Maintain a daily construction and inspection activities log and compare progress reports.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • High School Graduate plus a minimum of 4 years of DOT roadway and/or bridge construction experience.
  • Alternatively, a Civil Engineering degree and one (1) year of road & bridge CEI experience and one (1) year experience as an Engineer Intern. Employee will have the ability to earn additional required qualifications within six months.
  • Valid driver's license with approved/acceptable driving history required.
  • Must obtain Work Zone Traffic Control (Advanced or Supervisor) within the first six months of employment.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Position requires a minimum of 40 hours a week with the possibility of overtime (Hourly).
  • Ability to learn and reach self-sufficiency with data entry and project record submittal in AASHTO-Ware Project and ProjectWise applications.
