Asphalt Paving Lead

Reeves Construction Company is currently seeking an individual for the position of Asphalt Paving Lead in Duncan, SC. The successful candidate for this role will have an uncompromising focus on safety excellence. Essential duties and responsibilities including, but not limited to:

  • Assist in scheduling of field activities, subcontractors and crew members.
  • Inspect work performed to ensure it meets specifications and is on schedule.
  • Direct and supervise the activities of the crew in the performance of their regular duties in the crew foreman's absence.
  • Assist with analyzing construction equipment needs and trucking requirements.
  • Maintain daily records of all significant project facts, crew timesheets, events and conditions.
  • Assist with the instruction and training of employees and ensure the safety of the workers.
  • Supervises all phases of a paving operation such as maintenance of equipment, employees, and distribution of product.
  • Aid crew foreman in implementing environmental, health and safety regulations and policies (local, state and government).
  • Responsible for maintenance and repair of equipment.
  • Must have a basic knowledge of abilities and limitations in all paving applications.
  • Ability to recognize potential problems before breakdowns occur.
  • Must keep equipment serviced, lubricated, and in good working order, including good housekeeping.
  • Must understand the dangers involved in an interstate operation.
  • Must have the ability to work safely and follow the policies and procedures of the company.

Job requirements:

  • Experience in roadway and site construction.
  • Knowledge of traffic control standards.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Commitment to company's safety program and practices.
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate paving equipment (Example: Pavers, Rollers, Broom Tractor, Lute and Tack Truck)
  • Travel in short intervals may be required.
  • Must be able to speak the English language fluently.
  • Must possess a current, valid driver's license.
  • Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) 5+ years' experience in Road Paving Management.

Physical demands:

  • Must be able to climb onto and up and down a machine several times a day.
  • Must be able to sit in a machine and operate it for several hours without stopping.
  • Must withstand vibration from job site conditions as well as noise from other equipment.
  • Must be able to use arms, hands, and feet in repetitive motions.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach and signal with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell.
  • The employee frequently is required to stand and walk.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Employees must have 20/40 vision, either naturally or with corrective lenses. Hearing should be excellent or corrected by audio device.

Work environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, and vibration.
  • The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
