Answers incoming emergency and non-emergency voice and Telecommunication Device for the Deaf (TDD) calls; determines nature of call, location of caller or emergency, and correct signal and/or code; enters information into the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) System; and advises supervisors of all priority calls. Forwards information to the appropriate emergency response units or law enforcement agencies; assigns calls to emergency medical services, fire, or law enforcement units for necessary action; monitors status display terminals and radio frequencies; and ensures correct status of responses pending and dispatched and location of units. Utilizes computer to enter and retrieve data; sorts and files records; and assists callers with transactions and information relating to law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services activity. Performs other related duties as required. High school diploma or GED required, with vocational or technical training in emergency dispatch; supplemented by one year or work experience that shows and ability to maintain steady employment in any field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid South Driver's License. Must obtain and maintain Emergency Dispatch and CPR certifications.
