Science PLUS General Assistant (GA), Roper Mountain Science Center
Job Summary:
The general assistant will report to the Science PLUS Coordinator and the Assistant Coordinator. General assistants provide service to Science PLUS instructors and participants as needed during the Summer Science PLUS Institute. More information about the Science PLUS Institute can be found at
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Inventory: The general assistants will use the inventory lists provided to cross-check items for Science PLUS courses each week.
2. Moving: General assistants, along with the Science PLUS staff, will move large amounts of boxes from the storage area in Harrison Hall into labs for class use. These boxes may weigh up to 50 lbs each and are transported via full-time staff vehicles and/or golf carts.
3. Food Service: Along with the Science PLUS staff, general assistants will set up snack bags, coffee stations, and ice for class use and assist with lunch service Mondays-Thursdays, including set up, serving, and wiping tables.
4. Room Set-Up: Before each course begins, general assistants will set up each room, including unpacking boxes, organizing and displaying materials, organizing supply caddies, and making copies.
5. Load-out: The general assistants and Science PLUS staff will assist participants in loading their science materials at the completion of the course each week. This may include lifting boxes, loading materials into vehicles, and directing traffic.
Salary:
$14 per hour (up to 28 hours per week)
Schedule:
General assistants will work 4 days per week (Mondays through Fridays only) for 7 hours per day. The starting date is Monday, June 1, 2026.
