UW Tacoma has an outstanding opportunity for a Custodian to join their team.
The Custodian plays an essential role in maintaining the building of the UW Tacoma Campus, and supporting a learning environment that promotes health, attitude and pride of students. This position provides regular building maintenance function by performing custodial tasks to maintain cleanliness and care of facilities for the entire campus, including classrooms, laboratories, student gathering spaces, auditoriums, offices and conference rooms. The custodian position also serves as a role model for students by displaying a professional, courteous, and helpful nature.
TYPICAL DUTIES
- Clean and sanitize restrooms/shower rooms and fixtures in accordance with UWT campus procedures and standards; refill restroom dispensers. Applies cleaning chemicals according to established safety procedures, adheres to safety measures for cleaning.
- Clean whiteboards and chalkboards, replacing classroom supplies as needed; dust and wipe furniture; sweep, mop or vacuum floors, reset space furnishings; empty receptacles for trash, recycle, and compostable materials, pick up litter within the campus and on campus grounds, empty and clean ashtrays and cigarette urns. Make certain all areas of the building are kept in a clean, sanitary and orderly condition according to industry and/or district standards.
- Strip, clean, buff and apply finish to floors; use high speed floor buffers/polishers; vacuum and deep clean carpets with extraction equipment.
- Use and maintain assigned equipment and hand tools such as vacuum, broom, mop, squeegee, ladder for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, and furniture. Adheres to safety measures for cleaning, lifting, moving, and operating equipment.
- Lock and unlock interior spaces; secure building when facilities are not in use by checking for unlocked doors and windows and reporting any issues to lead/supervisor as well as Campus Safety and Security; report unauthorized occupants.
- Follow written and/or verbal instructions regarding the use of chemicals, supplies and equipment; comply with safety policies and procedures.
- Report need for repair and/or maintenance.
- May wash interior or reasonably accessible exterior windows.
- May perform cleaning and related activities in areas within a reasonable distance from buildings using hand-operated tools or small power equipment to remove snow or debris, or sweeping sidewalks or stairs.
- May move furniture, equipment, supplies and tools on an incidental basis.
- May operate high-pressure washer.
- Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS - Physical ability to do required work.
Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
DESIRED REQUIREMENTS - Employee is required to use properly use such safety equipment as is appropriate to the work to prevent injury to self or others.
- Ability to communicate in person, by radio, electronically and over the phone.
- Ability to use computer equipment to complete reports, generate service orders, complete timesheets, etc.
Compensation, Benefits and Position Details Pay Range Minimum: $45,288.00 annual
Pay Range Maximum: $49,740.00 annual
