A leading industrial manufacturing organization in the transportation and heavy equipment space is seeking a Senior Environmental Specialist to support operations in Lumberton, NC and Greenville, SC. This role is focused on strengthening environmental compliance, building durable programs, and partnering closely with site leadership to manage risk and enable operational success. This person will play a hands-on leadership role, translating complex regulations into practical, executable requirements. It's a strong opportunity for an experienced environmental professional who enjoys ownership, influence, and working in a dynamic, multi-site environment.

This is on onsite position based in either Lumberton, NC and Greenville, SC, spending roughly 50% of the time in each location. Potential for this role to progress to oversight of several other regional sites.

The Role

• Provide technical environmental leadership to manufacturing operations to ensure ongoing compliance and continuous improvement.
• Interpret federal and state environmental regulations (air, waste, water, chemicals, and transportation) and operationalize permit requirements.
• Lead audits, compliance reviews, and assurance activities using a trust-but-verify approach.
• Develop, standardize, and implement environmental programs, procedures, and compliance mechanisms across sites.
• Proactively communicate environmental risks and mitigation strategies to site and business leadership while partnering with regulators as needed.

The Candidate

• Bachelor's degree in an environmental or related technical discipline.
• 5+ years of environmental compliance experience in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Strong working knowledge of multi-media environmental regulations (e.g., air permitting, hazardous waste, water, TSCA, DOT).
• Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects, prioritize competing demands, and deliver accurate, detailed work.
• Confident communicator and leader with experience training, influencing, and coaching teams at all organizational levels.
