Position: Director of Facilities for local Church Reports To: Business Administrator Supervises: Building Supervisor and contracted custodial service providers Shift: 1st Position Summary The Director of Facilities provides strategic and operational leadership for the care, maintenance, safety, and readiness of the church's buildings, grounds, vehicles, and related physical assets. This role ensures church facilities effectively support worship, ministry programs, staff operations, and community use while maintaining a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained environment. The Director of Facilities leads facility operations through preventative maintenance planning, vendor management, asset tracking, and supervision of custodial services. This individual works closely with church leadership to steward the church's physical resources and plan for future facility needs and improvements. Key Responsibilities Strategic Planning Work with church leadership to assess facility needs and plan for future building improvements. Assist in forecasting maintenance needs and lifecycle replacement of major building systems and equipment. Facilities Operations, Maintenance & Custodial Management Oversee the maintenance, care, and operational readiness of all church facilities, grounds, vehicles, and rental properties. Maintain records for service, repairs, warranties, inspections, and preventative maintenance of all physical assets. Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs to ensure building systems operate safely and efficiently. Supervise custodial operations utilizing in-house and contracted personnel. Perform maintenance within the limits of personal skills. Facilities Scheduling & Ministry Support Oversee building access and HVAC usage to support ministry programs and events. Collaborate with ministry leaders and administrative staff to ensure facility needs are met for worship services, programs, and outside events. Safety & Compliance Ensure building safety operations are maintained across all facilities. Promote and communicate workplace safety standards for staff, volunteers, and building users. Coordinate routine safety inspections and ensure timely resolution of safety concerns. Budget & Vendor Management In collaboration with church leadership, assist in developing and managing the facilities and maintenance budget. Monitor expenses related to facilities operations. Manage relationships with maintenance vendors, contractors, and service providers. Oversee service contracts and ensure quality work performed within approved budgets. Qualifications Bachelor's or associate's degree preferred in facilities management, construction management, business administration, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of experience in facilities management, building operations, property management, or a related field. Demonstrated ability to manage facility operations, prioritize projects, and oversee service providers. Working knowledge of building systems such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general maintenance. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), Google Workspace, and Google Drive. Ability to routinely lift furniture, construction materials, and equipment; comfortable standing and/or walking for long periods. Experience supervising staff and coordinating contracted services.
