Summary of Work

Aging Services - Remote in North Dakota - APS Central Intake

As our APS Central Intake , you will serve as the statewide first point of contact for reports of suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation involving vulnerable adults. In this role, you will be the first voice people hear when they need guidance, support, and direction during difficult situations. You will gather critical information, assess each report, and determine whether Adult Protective Services will conduct the investigation or ifthe report should be referred to another appropriate area. Your work will require careful judgment, especially in situations where policies may appear clear but require thoughtful interpretation.

In your day-to-day work, you will receive and document reports of alleged abuse, neglect, and exploitation while managing multiple tasks at once. You will often navigate sensitive conversations, using de-escalation techniques to help callers feel heard and supported while determining what the appropriate situational response is. You will assist with technical assistance and education to regional staff on intake processes and web-based data systems, particularly when updates or changes occur. In addition, you will consult with community partners and referral sources and help educate others on how to recognize and report concerns. Your role will also involve reviewing, managing, and analyzing data to support program effectiveness and informed decision-making.

To succeed in this position , you should be naturally curious and know when to ask thoughtful questions to gather complete and accurate information. You will need to demonstrate strong listening skills, focusing on understanding rather than simply responding, and building trust with individuals who may be experiencing stressful or emotional situations. Comfort with frequent phone communication is important, as you will spend a significant portion of your day on calls. You should also be able to multitask effectively, documenting detailed information while actively engaging in conversations. Familiarity with community programs and how they operate will be beneficial, as it will support your ability to make informed referrals and ensure individuals are connected to the right resources.

To be considered for this position , you must have a bachelor's degree in one of the following fields social work, gerontology, criminal justice, nursing, business administration, counseling (including addiction counseling), Psychology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, public health or sociology AND a minimum of two (2) years of professional work experience working with vulnerable individuals.

Location: This position is remote in North Dakota or surrounding communities. Must be able to travel when needed.
