About the Company

SC Steel, LLC was established January 2, 2018, as a subsidiary of FabSouth and acquired the assets of SMI-Owen Steel Company, Inc. on April 1, 2018. SMI-Owen Steel Company had owned the business since 1994 when they acquired it from South Carolina Steel Company. The Upstate South Carolina facility has been in operation at this location since 1952.

Job Overview

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented On-Site Project Manager. This team member will coordinate on-site activities and communications to provide a safe, high quality project that meets or exceeds our customers' expectations. The team member will be the single point of contact on the job site for a customers, interacting with the general contractor, steel erector and miscellaneous steel provider to coordinate work and deliveries. This is a 100% travel position with temporary assignments to various project sites during steel erection.

Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Oversee subcontractors' activities at the jobsite
  2. Report on progress at the jobsite
  3. Coordinate communication between the subcontractors at the jobsite and the project manager
  4. Problem solve issues to maintain schedule
  5. Attend jobsite meetings with the general contractor - acting as SC Steel's representative
  6. Identify and raise issues before they become critical
  7. Coordinate deliveries and receiving of SC Steel's scope of products at the jobsite


Desired Traits

  • Project Management training and/or experience
  • Working knowledge of computers and computer software, including Microsoft Office applications
  • Working knowledge of structural steel related codes and specifications
  • Working knowledge of OSHA's 1926 standard for construction safety
  • Experience working for or working with structural steel erectors


Education/Training/Experience

Bachelors degree in a construction focused field, OR 5 years of experience in the steel construction industry or related field

Quality - Focus on identifying quality issues and errors and take the lead in communicating the issues to the proper parties

Project Planning - ability to plan and track activities each day to maintain jobsite progress

Communication -daily and weekly communication with subcontractors and project managers (both for SC Steel and the general contractor)
