Medical Collector

The University of Miami/UHealth Central Business Office has exciting remote full-time opportunities within the Tri-County area for the following roles. The primary focus of these roles is to ensure that patient accounts are efficiently collected in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Further, the Medical Collectors are in charge of all duties related to the billing and collection activities of accounts receivable.

Core job functions include:

1. Coordinating the resolution of patient accounts and verifying patient's demographic and insurance information.
2. Reviewing and monitoring reimbursements due, and determining appropriate collection methods and account follow-up procedure.
3. Pursuing insurance carries by placing phone calls, documenting work performed, and setting safeguards to ensure that payments are received.
4. Preparing monthly report for account receivables and other items assigned.
5. Reviewing benefit explanations from insurance companies and taking proper actions to request adjustments or refunds when applicable.
6. Identifying trends and any problems with particular payors and reporting findings to supervising staff.
7. Responding to over-the-phone and in-person inquiries from patients and insurance carriers.
8. Adhering to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguarding University assets.

Core qualifications:

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 1 year of relevant experience required.

Knowledge, skills, and aptitudes:

• General knowledge of office procedures and operations.
• Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
• Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting procedures and principles.
