As a VDI Systems Engineer, you will work in a key role that enables business users, developers, and other key stakeholders to change the way healthcare is provided. With a focus on Cloud Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, you will enable and support an environment that is accessible from anywhere and maintain 24x7 environment.

You will be working in a fast-paced environment looking to quickly innovate and enable IT solutions that assist our practitioners in the field to provide medical care to our patients. Examples of projects you will support:

  • Optimize VDI on a Global Environment
  • Expand our VDI environment to meet business growth
  • Design automation solutions to create or VDI instances as needed.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining and support of current internal reporting/forecasting tools
  • Gathering business requirements
  • Provide technical support for non-programming staff
  • Routinely fine tune to keep VDI running properly and always accessible to our team members
  • Collaborate with team members to implement strategies to streamline current system processes
  • Virtual Workspace Operations Tier3 Citrix & VDI Support
  • Maintain Cloud Hosted VDI Platform
  • Design/Define Technical Specifications Documents
  • Develop/Enhance Virtualization technologies for Product/Software Solutions
  • Performance evaluations for Systems and Applications for rightsizing
  • Consultant with POC efforts for Systems and Applications
  • Bring an understanding of the Horizon VDI and VMware infrastructure preferably in a Healthcare virtualized environment
  • Partner with Platform team on the development and improvement of Blueprints and vRA Platform integrations
  • Partner with other team on the development and improvement of Packages on Windows and Unix platforms
  • Collaborate with others to troubleshoot and resolve escalated production issues
  • Establish and consult on best practices and standard operating procedures for development, deployment, support, break-fix, and systems management, deploy and support automation systems and tooling in a 24x7 production environment - On call for 1 week out of every 8 weeks
  • Established processes and procedures in terms of Change Management, Incident Management, Security controls Provides Various Reports and updates SOPs
  • Support implementation, configuration, operations and maintenance of VMware components to include SRM, VRA and VDI Implement, patching and upgrades to ensure VM environment in compliance with CIS
  • What experience will set candidates apart from one another?
  • Virtualization experience including Mindtree, VMWare Horizon, VMWare vSphere, Microsoft Server and Microsoft Windows 10
  • Solid experience with VMware vRealize Automation and Operations
  • Proficient use PowerShell/PowerCLI to manage virtual machines and virtual infrastructure
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment

Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in virtual desktop infrastructure support
  • Experience in Horizon View and Lab Manager
  • Experience in VDI storage management
  • Experience translating business requirements into a detailed system specification
  • Experience working in a large scale VDI implementation
  • Experience in Citrix and OR VMWare End User computing

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher level of education or equivalent experience
  • Experience operating, maintaining/upgrading VMware virtual infrastructures
  • VMware Vsphere and vRealize knowledge
  • Citrix XenApp knowledge
  • Knowledge of IP protocols, routing, and switching
  • SME background services to serve many desktop related projects
  • Proficient use of scripting technologies (PowerShell, PowerCLI)
  • Consultant with POC efforts for Systems and Applications
  • Work with the team to refine and implement logging, alerting, and monitoring
  • Communicate effectively with business customers and VDI Team
  • Solve Incident Tickets related to VDI infrastructure
  • Assist in migration of existing VDI services to a new virtualization automation platform
  • Update and patch Windows 10 golden templates in multiple VDI environments
  • VDI build automation
  • Support and Installation of VMware Horizon 7, vSphere, vROPS/vRA

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
