Mid-Level Network Engineer
The Mid-Level Network Engineer serves as the on-site technical presence at Auxis' client corporate headquarters, providing hands-on network engineering, day-to-day network operations, and acting as the "hands and eyes" for Auxis' remote Network team. This role is critical to ensuring secure, reliable, and compliant network operations in a regulated financial services environment.
The Mid-Level Network Engineer is responsible for configuring, deploying, and maintaining network devicesincluding routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless controllerswhile executing on-site tasks, troubleshooting, and physical network activities under the guidance of Auxis' remote engineering teams. This role requires strict adherence to security, change management, and compliance requirements.
On-Site Network Operations & Hands-and-Eyes Support
- Act as the primary on-site technical resource supporting Auxis remote Network Engineers and Architects.
- Perform physical network tasks, including rack and stack, cabling standards, equipment diagnostics, hardware lifecycle management, and preventive maintenance.
- Execute power cycling, patching, device replacement, console access, and device recovery.
- Provide real-time collaboration with remote teams during troubleshooting, maintenance, and upgrades.
- Validate physical network connectivity and environmental conditions (power, cabling, link lights, labeling).
Network Infrastructure Configuration & Support
- Hands-on experience configuring, deploying, and managing network devices including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless controllers.
- Support and maintain LAN, WAN, WLAN, VPN, and firewall environments at corporate headquarters.
- Configure and troubleshoot Layer 2/Layer 3 technologies such as VLANs, STP (Spanning Tree Protocol), Port-channels (EtherChannel/LACP), and static routing.
- Install, configure, and maintain Cisco IOS/IOS-XE devices, including firmware upgrades and hardware replacements.
- Hands-on experience with firewalls; able to configure basic firewall management, access control lists (ACLs), and NAT policies.
- Perform on-site diagnostics for network performance and connectivity issues.
- Support high-availability and redundancy requirements for business-critical financial systems.
Enterprise Wi-Fi Solutions
- Implement and support enterprise Wi-Fi solutions, including access point (AP) provisioning, wireless controller configuration, RF optimization, and heat map analysis.
- Troubleshoot wireless connectivity issues and optimize coverage across corporate facilities.
- Coordinate wireless surveys and site assessments to ensure adequate signal strength and minimal interference.
Security, Compliance & Audit Support
- Enforce physical and logical network security controls.
- Support secure access procedures and change validation.
- Assist with audits, risk assessments, and compliance activities (e.g., SOC, SOX, internal controls).
- Ensure proper handling of sensitive financial data and secure network assets.
Incident, Change & Problem Management
- Execute approved network changes following formal change management processes.
- Support incident response and root cause analysis efforts.
- Document on-site activities, findings, and outcomes in ITSM tools.
- Coordinate with Auxis Service Desk, Security, and Infrastructure teams as needed.
Documentation & Network Management
- Document network changes, topology diagrams, and device inventories for operational accuracy and audit readiness.
- Maintain up-to-date network configuration baselines, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and runbooks.
- Ensure all changes are properly recorded in the change management system with appropriate approvals.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Vendor Coordination
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan migrations, implement network upgrades, create tickets for service providers, and ensure minimal disruption during change windows.
- Coordinate on-site work with telecom providers, ISPs, and hardware vendors.
- Support circuit installations, hardware refreshes, and vendor-led maintenance.
- Provide high-touch support for corporate and executive users as required.
Skills and Experience
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of enterprise networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, switching, and wireless.
- Hands-on experience configuring, deploying, and managing network devices including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless controllers.
- Proficiency with Layer 2/Layer 3 technologies such as VLANs, STP, Port-channels (EtherChannel/LACP), and static routing.
- Experience installing and maintaining Cisco IOS/IOS-XE devices, including firmware upgrades and hardware replacements.
- Hands-on experience with firewalls (e.g., Fortinet, Palo Alto, Cisco ASA/FTD); able to configure basic management, ACLs, and NAT.
- Experience implementing and supporting enterprise Wi-Fi solutions, including AP provisioning, controller configuration, RF optimization, and heat map analysis.
- Hands-on experience with enterprise network hardware (e.g., Cisco, Meraki, Aruba, Fortinet, Palo Alto, Juniper).
- Experience supporting VPNs and secure remote access.
- Familiarity with network monitoring and diagnostic tools (e.g., Wireshark, SolarWinds, PRTG).
- Ability to follow detailed technical runbooks and execute changes accurately.
- Familiarity with ITSM tools and ITIL-based operational processes.
Professional Experience
- 35+ years of experience in a Network Engineer, Network Administrator, or Network Support role.
- Experience supporting corporate HQ or regulated financial environments preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with rack and stack, cabling standards, equipment diagnostics, hardware lifecycle management, and preventive maintenance.
- Proven ability to document network changes, topology diagrams, and device inventories for operational accuracy and audit readiness.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to plan migrations, implement network upgrades, and manage change windows.
- Prior experience working in hybrid on-site/remote delivery models.
- Comfortable working under direction of remote engineers and architects.
- Availability for on-call or after-hours support when required.
Education & Certifications
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Required Certifications (at least one):
- CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate)
- CompTIA Network+
Preferred Certifications:
- CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional)
- Vendor-specific networking or firewall certifications (e.g., Fortinet NSE, Palo Alto PCNSA)
- ITIL Foundation

- Occasional after-hours or emergency support required for business continuity.
- Participation in on-call rotation schedule.
