Operations Manager - Thermoforming & Extrusion

We have an immediate opening for an Operations Manager responsible for leading the day-to-day manufacturing operations of our Thermoforming and Extrusion departments. This role ensures production runs safely, efficiently, and meets quality standards while supporting plant performance goals.

The Operations Manager provides leadership to Production Supervisors and works closely with Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, and Supply Chain to maintain reliable production, resolve operational issues, and support continuous improvement efforts across polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) manufacturing processes. This role plays an important part in strengthening operational discipline, supporting frontline leadership, and improving overall manufacturing performance within the facility. The role reports to the Plant Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Operations Leadership

  • Lead daily operations of thermoforming and extrusion production lines.
  • Ensure production performance meets safety, quality, delivery, and cost expectations.
  • Monitor production metrics and work with supervisors to address operational challenges.
  • Participate in daily production reviews and drive follow-up actions as needed.
Team Leadership
  • Lead and support Production Supervisors responsible for shift operations.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to frontline leaders on performance management and operational expectations.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Support workforce planning and staffing needs across production departments.
Operational Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to improve production efficiency, reduce scrap, and minimize downtime.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within thermoforming and extrusion operations.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to resolve recurring production issues.
Equipment & Process Performance
  • Monitor equipment performance and partner with Maintenance and Engineering to improve reliability.
  • Support preventive maintenance efforts and equipment improvements.
  • Assist with equipment upgrades or process changes that improve production performance.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
  • Promote safe work practices and ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety standards.
  • Ensure production processes follow quality and food safety requirements where applicable.
  • Partner with Quality teams to resolve production or product quality concerns.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with Planning, Maintenance, Quality, and Engineering to support production schedules.
  • Communicate operational updates and issues to plant leadership.
  • Support plant initiatives that improve operational performance and efficiency.
Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, or related field preferred.

Required Experience
  • 5–7 years of manufacturing leadership experience
  • Experience in thermoforming, extrusion, plastics manufacturing, or packaging production
  • Experience with thermoforming lines and extrusion equipment in a food packaging or plastics environment
  • Experience working with PP (polypropylene) and PET (polyethylene terephthalate) materials
  • Experience leading supervisors or production teams in a manufacturing environment
Preferred Experience
  • Experience working in high-volume manufacturing environments
  • Experience supporting process improvements or operational efficiency initiatives
