Disaster Recovery (DR) Zerto Consultant Hyper V to VMware Environments
Location: Greenville, South Carolina
Seeking an experienced Disaster Recovery (DR) Zerto Consultant to support the design, validation, and execution of disaster recovery operations for a production Hyper Vbased environment with replication to a VMware based DR tenant. The consultant will play a critical role in failover testing, recovery orchestration, cross hypervisor recovery, and the development of detailed DR runbooks to ensure business continuity.
Key Responsibilities
- Disaster Recovery Failover Execution
- Execute and validate Zerto-based failover and test failover operations for production workloads replicated from Hyper V to VMware environments.
- Bring replicated Active Directory Domain Controllers in isolated DR networks and validate directory services availability.
- Recover VM groups in a defined dependency-based sequence, ensuring proper service initialization and stability.
- Manage staggered VM startup to prevent service contention and application failures during recovery.
- Cross Hypervisor Recovery Support
- Support and validate Hyper V to VMware recovery scenarios using Zerto.
- Ensure VMware Tools are leveraged for guest customization, network injection, and system configuration during DR boot up.
- Windows Infrastructure Application Services
- Provide hands-on support for Windows Server workloads including: Active Directory / Domain Controllers, DNS, DHCP, and IIS.
- Validate application and service dependencies post failover to ensure functional recovery.
- Networking IP Remediation
- Execute and validate network re IP operations during failover due to non shared IP schemas between production and DR environments.
- Verify inter server communication, DNS resolution, and service bindings after recovery.
- Develop or assist with manual or orchestrated scripts/automation required for network and service remediation.
- Failback Validation
- Validate DR procedures for both: Live production failover events and failback to production scenarios.
- Runbook Documentation Development
- Develop and refine Disaster Recovery runbooks using a provided template.
- Document: Step by step failover procedures, dependency mapping, recovery timing and sequencing, failback processes.
- Update documentation iteratively based on validation testing results.
Required Skills
- Technical Expertise
- Hands on experience with Zerto replication and failover orchestration.
- Proven experience with Hyper V to VMware disaster recovery scenarios.
- Strong expertise in Windows Server environments, including AD, DNS, DHCP, and IIS.
- Solid understanding of networking concepts, IP addressing, and DNS/service dependency remediation.
- Operational Skills
- Ability to plan and execute dependency aware recovery sequencing.
- Experience supporting multi-site DR environments and isolated recovery networks.
- Strong documentation and runbook development capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with DartPoints datacenter or cloud portal environments.
- Exposure to pilot light DR models and phased recovery strategies.
- Experience coordinating with infrastructure, networking, and application SMEs.
Engagement Scope: Support DR testing and validation for production workloads hosted in customer datacenters. Collaborate closely with internal infrastructure, networking, and application teams during planning and execution.
