Welder/Fabricator

The welder/fabricator is responsible for performing MIG and TIG welding, as well as assembling and disassembling custom and standard products using blueprints, mechanical drawings, and established procedures. This role involves working with mechanical components, executing precise measurements, and ensuring all fabrication and assembly work meets quality and schedule requirements with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform welding operations (MIG/TIG) and use acetylene, propylene, and natural gas torches for heating and fabrication tasks.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and use precision measuring tools such as dial calipers, ID/OD micrometers, and vernier calipers to verify dimensional accuracy.
  • Use dial indicators to check runout on driveline components.
  • Assemble and disassemble components based on blueprints, manuals, and engineering notes using hand and power tools.
  • Lay out hole locations; perform drilling and tapping as required.
  • Set up, fit, bolt, and dowel large assemblies including frames and brackets.
  • Manage time effectively to ensure assembly and fabrication projects are completed on schedule.
  • Disassemble and inspect machinery following testing to prepare equipment for customer shipment.
  • Communicate and coordinate with internal teams outside the immediate work group.
  • Perform assigned tasks following established plans and procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in accordance with company safety policies, 5S standards, and core values.
Job Requirements
  • Ability to pass a weld coupon bend test; proficiency in MIG and TIG welding is required.
  • 2+ years of mechanical assembly or closely related experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with standard mechanical assembly concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to follow established guidelines and work instructions.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of metals and machining-related measurements.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and work instructions accurately.
  • Basic writing skills for documenting work activities.
  • Proficiency with basic math, including fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to use a computer following clear instructions.
  • Ability to select and adjust tools and materials to meet required standards.
  • Problem-solving skills for routine, easily recognizable issues.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs; items over 35 lbs require proper lifting equipment.
Preferred Skills
  • Submerged arc welding experience.
  • Basic familiarity with manual lathes (for runout checking, not machining).
  • Driveline balancing experience.
