A Day in the Life and the Impact You'll Make:
As a Senior Environmental Management Systems Consultant at DEKRA, you will help save lives, prevent serious injuries, protect environmental resources, and strengthen client safety cultures by driving organizational change. You will lead initiatives to improve Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) performance through expert consulting and by developing services that meet evolving client needs. Your role will also focus on identifying environmental consulting opportunities, designing solutions, and supporting clients in achieving environmental compliance and excellence.
What You'll Do:
- Contribute to a safe and healthy work environment by actively participating, taking responsibility, and following established procedures and policies.
- Provide day-to-day leadership and management of DEKRA's Environmental Services offerings.
- Lead client engagements involving complex, multi-site operations with elevated environmental risk, requiring robust Environmental Management Systems and disciplined execution.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in an array of environmental regulations, standards, and industry best practices, with a focus on Environmental Management Systems (EMS), regulatory compliance, and environmental risk management. This may include providing guidance to clients on your:
- Environmental Management Systems & Sustainability Expertise:
- Environmental Management Systems (EMS), including:
- ISO 14001 implementation, integration, and internal auditing
- EMS maturity assessments, gap analyses, and roadmap development
- Governance structures, roles, and performance measurement
- Sustainability and environmental performance strategy, including:
- Alignment of environmental objectives with business strategy
- Support for GHG inventories, carbon management planning, and sustainability initiatives
- Corporate ESG program support (e.g., CDP, GRI, SASB), from a systems and governance perspective
- Waste minimization, resource efficiency, and circular economy program design
- Environmental risk identification and prioritization across operations and lifecycle stages
- Strategic & Project Management Expertise:
- Design and deployment of multi-site environmental compliance and EMS programs
- Program management support for environmental initiatives, including:
- Oversight of third-party technical consultants and engineers
- Integration of environmental requirements into operations, maintenance, and capital projects
- Environmental risk assessments and program reviews during mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures
- Development of environmental policies, standards, procedures, and performance metrics
- Executive and leadership advisory support, including:
- Translating regulatory requirements into actionable management systems
- Briefings for senior leadership on environmental risk, performance, and priorities
- Stakeholder engagement with internal leadership, regulators, and external partners (as appropriate)
- Regulatory & Compliance Expertise:
- Working knowledge of U.S. environmental regulatory frameworks, including:
- Risk Management Plans (RMP) - 40 CFR Part 68
- Clean Air Act (CAA)
- Clean Water Act (CWA)
- Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)
- EPCRA, TSCA, SDWA, and SPCC requirements
- Ability to interpret regulatory obligations and embed them into EMS frameworks, rather than preparing detailed permit applications or engineering submittals.
- Support compliance assurance through audits, management reviews, and corrective action tracking.
- Provide limited support to occupational health and safety consulting engagements as capacity allows, particularly where safety and environmental management systems intersect.
- Collaborate with Health & Safety consultants to support integrated EHS management system approaches.
- Advise clients on tools, governance models, and continuous improvement strategies to enhance environmental performance.
- Provide project management, sales support, and technical input to business development initiatives.
- Support marketing and thought leadership through proposals, technical content, and presentations.
- Represent DEKRA at conferences and client events through programmatic and strategic thought leadership.
- Contribute to the development and application of AI-enabled consulting approaches that enhance EHS program effectiveness, insight generation, and client value.
What You'll Bring: - Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in environmental studies, EHS, sustainability, engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience: 10+ years of environmental or EHS experience in consulting, industry, or regulatory settings, with demonstrated leadership in program development, management systems, or environmental governance.
- Certifications: ISO 14001 Lead Auditor or equivalent experience preferred, Professional Engineer (PE) is optional and not required.
- Demonstrated ability to provide strategic, systems-based environmental guidance rather than transactional technical execution.
- Strong planning and organizational skills; ability to manage competing priorities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Demonstrated client relationship management skills.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, across all organizational levels.
- Experience with organizational improvement initiatives (e.g., safety, quality).
- Strong facilitation and presentation skills.
- Proven ability to manage complex, large-scale projects.
Physical Considerations: - Ability to work in a variety of client locations/environments, including indoors/outdoors and on uneven terrain.
- Must be able to work variable shifts as required by client operations.
- Ability to travel extensively, including prolonged driving and air travel.
- Capable of lifting 25-50 lbs (luggage).
- Extended periods of computer work and standing.

What You'll Receive for the Value You Bring:Compensation: The base pay for this position is $110,000 annually to $130,000 annually. Actual pay is based on several factors including market location and position-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
