SUMMARY
The SCADA Controls Engineer III develops and configures the SCADA solutions for implementation in industrial material-handling projects. This position works closely with the Technical Lead and other Controls team members to ensure successful SCADA deployment and provides post-implementation support, troubleshooting, and training. This senior-level position serves as the subject matter expert on SCADA topics and provides mentorship and guidance to junior members of the SCADA team.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serves as subject matter expert and main point of contact on SCADA-related matters.
- Develops and configures SCADA solutions, including Ignition, WinCC, and SAV (TGW's proprietary software).
- Diagnoses and resolves issues in control systems and Linux-based environments.
- Troubleshoots and addresses internal and external connectivity issues.
- Deploys virtual machines (VMs) to maintain infrastructure efficiency.
- Conducts basic PLC programming, using Siemens TIA Portal and Rockwell Studio 5000, to support automation and controls processes.
- Creates standard documentation to ensure consistent practices and compliance.
- Facilitates training to meet internal and external (customer-facing) needs, as applicable.
- Provides system support to internal teams such as commissioning, Hotline, and other departments, to ensure performance and functionality of critical systems.
- Supports hardware and software commissioning activities as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTSEducation: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
Experience: Five (5) or more years of Controls Engineering experience, preferably in material-handling, industrial, or warehouse environment.
Travel: 50 - 60% travel, domestically and internationally
Skills & Abilities - Advanced knowledge of control systems troubleshooting, PLC programming, and SCADA systems such as Ignition and WinCC
- Deep understanding of electrical and mechanical principles, with the ability to read e-drawings and AutoCAD drawings.
- Proficiency in Siemens TIA Portal, Step 7 (STL, SCL, FBD, etc.)
- Demonstrated experience working on full design-to production project lifecycles.
- Teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams.
- Basic understanding of Industrial Communication Protocol (ProfiNet, Ethernet IP, etc.)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Willingness to travel and work hours across various shift schedules as required to support project needs.
Physical Requirements - Ability to stand and walk around industrial and/or warehouse environment for prolonged periods of time.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
- Ability to operate computers, tablets, phones, and other electronic devices.
- Visual and auditory abilities to work safely with and around moving and/or motorized equipment, machinery, parts, and electricity that require safety protocols
- Ability to move and use muscles for extended periods of time without fatigue.
- Ability to climb ladders, bend, or crawl into awkward spaces.
- Ability to communicate regularly with others verbally and in writing.
- Ability to tolerate exposure to job site temperature fluctuations due to seasonal weather in geographic region.
