Functional Safety Engineer

Duration: 12 Months Contract
Payrate: $75/hr to $90/hr. on W2

We are seeking a Functional Safety Engineer to join our Product Safety and Compliance Team and collaborate with Integrated System Test (IST) division. This role focuses on ensuring compliance with global safety standards for automated systems, robotics, and industrial test equipment meet all applicable product safety standards, regulatory requirements, and internal safety policies throughout the product lifecycle-from concept through deployment.

RESPONSIBILITES INCLUDE:

• Evaluate Teradyne products for compliance with applicable safety standards:
  • IEC 61010-1 (Electrical Safety for Test Equipment)
  • ISO 12100 / 13849-1 (Safety of Machinery)
  • ISO 10218 / ISO 15066 (Robotics & Collaborative Robots)
  • IEC 60204-1 (Electrical Safety for Machinery)
  • IEC 61508 / ISO 13849 (Functional Safety)
• Perform risk assessments and support mitigation strategies
• Collaborate with design teams to integrate safety features into product designs
• Prepare and review technical documentation for regulatory submissions and certifications
• Interface with regulatory bodies and third-party testing labs as needed
• Conduct safety analysis from circuit-level schematics to system-level designs; provide recommendations to engineering teams
• Build strong relationships with technical leads and engineering managers across IST group
• Assist with the creation of Technical Construction Files (TCF)
• Develop and deliver safety training to engineers, technicians, and operations personnel
• Promote a culture of proactive safety engagement across engineering and manufacturing teams
• Must be willing to travel Domestic and International up to 30% of the time

Required:

• Associate's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering (or related discipline)
  • With 10+ years of experience in product, functional, or system safety engineering, preferably in industrial automation or robotics.

or

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering (or related discipline).
  • With 5+ years of experience in product, functional, or system safety engineering, preferably in industrial automation or robotics.
• Strong knowledge of functional safety and risk assessment methodologies
• Familiarity with relevant standards: ISO 12100, ISO 13849, IEC 61508, IEC 60204-1, IEC 61010-1, ISO 10218.
• Proven experience supporting safety compliance for automated test systems, robotic cells, or integrated production lines
• Strong analytical and documentation skills.

Preferred:

• Certification such as TÜV Functional Safety Engineer or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
• Experience working with regulatory agencies and certification bodies
• Knowledge of PLCs, safety controllers, and industrial communication networks
• Familiarity with SEMI S2/S8 and other semiconductor equipment standards.
