Job Summary: The Power Plant Technician II plays a vital role in the ongoing operation and maintenance of a large-scale power generation facility, typically with a generation capacity exceeding 1 MV (1 million volts). While a high school diploma or GED equivalent is preferred, equivalent combinations of education and experience are also considered. This position requires six (6) to nine (9) years of related experience and a high level of job knowledge, skill, and physical ability to perform assigned job functions. Working in this role involves maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and ensuring the ongoing safe and efficient operation of the power generation facility.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair all aspects of a large-scale power generation facility, including generation equipment, power distribution/balancing systems, fueling, and related systems.
  • Adhere to strict precautionary work methods and safety equipment guidelines due to the severe electrical hazards present when working near energized equipment and components.
  • Monitor generating equipment, control/distribution systems, plant output, and related components to ensure safe plant operation and effective power generation on an ongoing basis.
  • Troubleshoot and repair or replace generators, control/distribution components, and fueling/support systems as necessary to restore and maintain continual power plant operation.
  • Conduct equipment testing using voltmeters, ammeters, and related electrical testing apparatus to determine the cause of malfunctions or failures.
  • Replace and repair equipment components such as relays, switches, load balancing/control systems, and indicating & recording instruments.
  • Safely operate all tools and equipment required to access work locations and complete necessary repairs or upgrades.
  • Complete all necessary documentation and communicate effectively with team members and other personnel as required to ensure efficient and safe power plant operation.
Qualifications:
  • Preferred: High school diploma or GED equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Six (6) to nine (9) years of relevant experience in power generation or a related field.
  • Strong job knowledge, skill level, and physical ability necessary to perform assigned job functions.
  • Proficiency in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing power generation equipment and related systems.
  • Thorough understanding of safety protocols and precautions when working with energized equipment and electrical hazards.
  • Ability to monitor and assess the performance of generating equipment and control/distribution systems.
  • Effective troubleshooting skills to identify and rectify malfunctions or failures.
  • Competence in using electrical testing apparatus such as voltmeters and ammeters.
  • Capability to repair and replace equipment components as required.
  • Proficient operation of tools and equipment used for maintenance and repair.
  • Strong documentation skills and effective communication with team members and other personnel.
