Overview

In this role the successful candidate will lead water resources and stormwater engineering projects for federal, state, and municipal clients. The role is client?focused, managing projects, mentoring junior staff, and working collaboratively with management staff. Responsibilities include executing project work, producing high?quality deliverables, maintaining schedules, coordinating with clients, and overseeing project elements.

Duties, Responsibilities & Other

  • Lead water resources and stormwater engineering projects related to federal, state, and municipal clients.
  • Serve in a client?focused role, managing projects and mentoring junior staff.
  • Coordinate and complete various project elements, ensuring high?quality deliverables and maintained schedules.
  • Maintain project schedules and coordinate with clients.
  • Execute project work, produce high?quality deliverables, and mentor junior staff.
  • Responsible for coordination and completion of project elements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of designers in developing PS&E packages for simple and complex roadway and bridge projects, utilizing state DOT and AASHTO design standards.
  • Project management experience and managing a design team.
  • Experience in developing and managing state DOT projects.
  • Experience with MicroStation and GeoPAK design software.
  • Proposal preparation, including scope, schedule, and fee; contract management and billing.
  • Strong design knowledge in transportation.
  • Professional Engineering License for designated state.
  • Prepare written technical proposals, assemble teams to meet client criteria, and develop professional relationships.
  • Demonstrated leadership with a broad knowledge of transportation processes.
  • Manage a team of designers, CADD technicians, and project engineers.
  • Train and develop staff.
  • Responsible for project delivery of complete transportation design packages, coordinating multiple design disciplines.
  • Oversee preparation of plans, technical specifications, quantity takeoffs, and construction estimates.
  • Local client contacts and ability to bring in business.

Project Management and Leadership
  • Manage all aspects of the project(s), including technical staff, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Develop and communicate the Project Management Plan, outlining objectives, scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety.
  • Effectively manage scope, ensuring alignment with client expectations.
  • Maintain schedules and proactively address delays.
  • Monitor budgets, implement cost?control measures.
  • Uphold high?quality standards throughout execution.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for the client.
  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and team members.
  • Allocate resources efficiently.
  • Identify, assess, and manage risks; develop mitigation strategies.
  • Conduct risk assessments and prepare contingency plans.

Training, Development, and Compliance
  • Mentor staff for training and development.
  • Comply with all KCI policies and procedures.
  • Provide input for project?specific safety plans and implement them to comply with federal, state, and local rules.

Financial Management and Reporting
  • Negotiate contract terms, scope, and fees.
  • Develop project schedules from inception to completion.
  • Identify concurrent tasks to optimize schedule.
  • Develop contracts for clients and subconsultants.
  • Report monthly proposal/business development results to senior PM or practice leader.
  • Achieve utilization targets and chart performance results.
  • Deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Prepare monthly project completion reports and inter?practice agreements.
  • Provide monthly progress reports.
  • Responsible for project cash management and provide comments to Finance and Operations.
  • Set up new projects and provide weekly data.
  • Search for ways to improve efficiency while lowering costs.

Business Development and Marketing
  • Participate in project opportunity evaluation, consultant selection, and preparation of qualification statements.
  • Identify new business opportunities and coordinate presentations to clients and external groups.
  • Develop and promote KCIs capabilities among existing and prospective clients.
  • Assist in project closeout with write?ups and marketing materials.

Project Execution and Technical Oversight
  • Fully manage all required project management and technical deliverables.
  • Compare field data to design plans.
  • Conduct site visits and gather data.
  • Prepare all phases of designs and submit for approval.
  • Read and interpret technical documents.
  • Make decisions on issues/cor challenges during implementation.
  • Maintain knowledge of state and municipal policies.
  • Perform essential duties and responsibilities enabling reasonable accommodations.

Qualifications

Education and/or Skills Required
  • Bachelors Degree in a related field (AEC Industry) and minimum of 3 years of related professional experience, or 7 years of equivalent experience.
  • Participation in continuing education and professional development programs.
  • Experience in project management roles with successful delivery.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Proven organizational and time?management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Technical knowledge in the specific field of the project.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and best practices.
  • Strong problem?solving skills.
  • Negotiation skills for contracts and stakeholder agreements.
  • Understanding of accounting principles for budget management.

Education and/or Work Experience Preferred
  • Masters Degree in a related field (AEC Industry).

Certificates, Licenses, and/or Registrations Required
  • Complete KCI PM Training and Contract Risk Training and pass the PM Board within 6 months of start date.
  • Pre?employment drug screening and background checks as required.
