Job Summary

Responds to the anesthetic needs of patients and coordinates their care with other perioperative personnel during the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases. Administers anesthesia services to patients for medical and surgical procedures relevant to the facility under the medical direction of staff anesthesiologist. Responds to emergent airway management needs within the facility as required. May be on-call, either in-house or from home, as required by the facility.

Accountabilities

1. Formulates anesthetic plans with anesthesiologist, discusses plans, risks, benefits, and options with the patient, and prepares for administration and implementation. (15%)
2. Performs specialized line placement procedures, including intravenous and arterial lines, within practice guidelines. (10%)
3. Documents pre-anesthesia assessments, intraoperative anesthesia care, vital signs, drug and fluid administration, events, charges, quality indicators, and controlled substance use. (25%)
4. Maintains age-specific competence in anesthesia skills such as airway management, induction, blocks, and general anesthesia. (20%)
5. Continuously updates knowledge of anesthesia pharmacology, modalities, techniques, and technology. (15%)
6. Provides a safe environment by systematically minimizing risks related to infection, injury, psychological stress, and equipment failure. (15%)

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

This is a non-management role reporting to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Minimum Requirements

Master's Degree in Nurse Anesthesia or CRNA certification, with no prior experience required.

Certifications/Registrations/Licensure

• SC RN- Advanced Practice
• CRNA- Nurse Anesthetist

In Lieu Of Minimum Requirements

CRNAs who graduated before December 31, 2003, from an accredited advanced nurse anesthetist program may qualify.

Other Skills and Experience

Mathematical skills, patient equipment familiarity (vitals, suction, defibrillator).
