Position Summary
Performs venipuncture and collects other specimens for laboratory testing. Label specimen containers accurately, deliver to proper destination in a timely manner and perform order entry duties as required. Must be able to provide and understand the specific communication, developmental and treatment needs of patients ranging in age from neonate-birth to geriatric. Compliance: understands and complies with the Standards of Behavior and department policies, procedures, and regulations.
Minimum Requirements
Education
• HS Diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of an accredited Phlebotomy Program.
Experience
• The skill to draw an average of 7 patients per hour within the first 90 days of employment.
• Proficient in the use of Laboratory Information System within the first 90 days of employment.
License/Registration/Certifications
• Must be ASCP eligible

Core Job Responsibilities
• Phlebotomist/Computer Operator/Processor is responsible for procurement and distribution of specimens, (blood, urine, etc.), computer data entry and operation of computer equipment.
• Must be able to provide and understand at the bedside the specific communication and collection needs of patients ranging in age from neonate-birth to geriatric.
• While these standards are intended to be an accurate reflection of the job requirements, management reserves the right to modify add/or remove duties from jobs and to assign other duties as necessary.
• Compliance: understands and complies with the Standards of Behavior and department policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Process and receiving specimens for the technical staff.
• Prepare send out specimens for reference testing.
• Answer incoming calls for the laboratory.
• Monitor phlebotomy supply inventory and rotate supplies as needed.
• Perform breath alcohol and urine drug screen collections.
• Perform SLED collections.
• Respond to ALL traumas, code strokes and codes sepsis in the ED.
• Respond to ALL medical alerts and emergencies for inpatient floors.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently.
• Must maintain strict confidentiality of work-related information.
• Requires working irregular/flexible hours holidays included.
• Must have dependable transportation (including inclement weather)
• Must be able to withstand the stress and demands of an active position.
• Must be able to withstand constant standing, walking, stooping, and bending.
• Must be able to respond calmly and efficiently in crisis situations.
• Must be able to work as a team member and interact positively with others.
• Must be able to work at optimum speed with accuracy and efficiency.
• Must be able to take directions and respond quickly and efficiently.
• Moderate lifting up to 50 pounds may be required.
• Position includes moderate chemical exposure.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of work-related information.
• Sensitive touch for locating veins, manual dexterity and coordination required for drawing blood.
• Vision requirements: must be able to pass a color vision test.
Hearing: within normal range required in daily work.
