Description:

The Shop Porter at Carolina International Trucks plays a key role in supporting our Service Department by ensuring the shop, equipment, and dealership grounds remain clean, organized, and fully operational. This position helps maintain a safe workplace and contributes to a smooth workflow for technicians by assisting with shop upkeep, equipment care, and general support tasks throughout the facility.
Core Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment by routinely sweeping, mopping, and scrubbing floors; cleaning shelves, workbenches, and other shop surfaces.
  • Keep dealership grounds and exterior shop areas free of debris, ensuring daily cleanliness in accordance with Rechtien Group standards.
  • Follow a scheduled checklist for routine maintenance and shop hygiene tasks.
  • Sort recyclables, scrap metal, and general refuse; arrange proper disposal with approved vendors when needed.
  • Monitor levels of waste fluids and metal containers, coordinating safe and compliant disposal.
  • Clean and maintain large shop equipment-such as forklifts, sandblasters, flywheel machines, wheel lifts, and alignment machinery-to ensure readiness and longevity.
  • Assist technicians and service staff with tasks that support safe, efficient completion of repairs and shop workflow.
  • Deliver parts and materials to shop bays when requested to help minimize downtime.
  • Uphold 5S/Elite Support signage, labeling, and organizational standards throughout the shop.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to internal needs within the service team, ensuring strong communication and follow-through.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and support overall shop operations by building strong working relationships across the department.
  • Complete additional tasks and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check, physical, and drug screen.
  • High school diploma or GED required; additional job-related training is a plus.
  • Valid driver's license with insurability strongly preferred.
  • Forklift certification or experience operating heavy equipment is a plus.
  • Mechanical aptitude with comfort handling tools and general shop equipment.
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment and follow basic shop safety policies.
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions, including mixing cleaning solutions.
  • Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently while supporting a fast-paced shop environment.
