JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Impulse, Inc. has an immediate opening for a Direct Support Specialist in several locations including, Greenwood, West Columbia, Saluda, and Ware shoals. Our client is a nonprofit organization serving individuals who are elderly, or who have disabilities and special needs through residential and community programs. They operate 47 housing units across Greenwood, Saluda, and Ware Shoals, helping residents live with greater independence. The Direct Support Specialistis responsible for assisting individuals in all of their different living facilities, helping with daily living activities, ensuring schedules are followed, and supporting independence where possible.

Responsibilities of a Direct Support Specialist includes:

• Transports individuals to and from work, appointments, shopping, trips, etc.

• Trains individuals in independent living skills, social skills, proper work skills and other areas as specified in each individual's facilitated or behavioral plan. Documents progress on a monthly basis.

• Acts as an advocate for individuals.

• Assists in carrying out recreational outings.

Job Requirements of a Direct Support Specialist:

• Responsible for adhering to and knowing the DSN Board and SCDDSN policies and procedures.

• Attends meetings and in-service training as assigned.

• Assists individuals in their correspondence, letter writing, personal phone calls, etc.

• Insures that adequate food is available in the home as needed for menus.

• Responsible for meal preparation.

REQUIRED Experience and Education:

Education: High School Diploma or GED

Experience: Experience working with disabilities and special needs preferred.

Licenses: Valid SC driver's license

General Requirements: Clear oral and written communication skills.

Physical Requirement: Direct care to include: bathing, dressing and assistance with toileting. Lift 25 lbs. frequently and 50lbs occasionally. Ability to bend, stoop, kneel and squat. Ability to stand or walk for long period of time. Ability to drive and transport individuals to include wheel chair bound.
