BookNook Tutors

BookNook is seeking passionate educators to join our tutoring community as independent contractors, working up to 30 hours per week. BookNook Tutors are on the front lines of closing the early-learning gap for K-8 students during a key period of their educational journey.

Our Online Reading Tutors work in live, synchronous online tutoring sessions using the BookNook platform and video conferencing software. This is an exciting opportunity to have a direct, positive impact on students.

BookNook tutors must reside in and work from the United States and have a US mailing address. We are unable to engage with tutors who reside in the following states: California, Hawaii, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, and Vermont, as well as US territories.

Position Type: 1099-eligible independent contractor

Pay Rate: $20 per hour ($10 per 30-minute session)

Timeline: Programming typically runs during the school year, with the busiest months from September-May

Schedule: Up to 30 hours per week based on availability provided and the number of active tutoring programs. Schedules may vary based on school requests.

Sessions are held only on weekdays (no weekends) and can be before school, during school, or after school. Program duration varies. Tutors are expected to commit to a full program with the same group of students throughout (duration will be known when series are offered).

Responsibilities

• Conduct virtual tutoring sessions covering vocabulary, phonics, and other science of reading elements using the BookNook platformno lesson planning required!
• Manage student behavior and engagement throughout sessions
• Create a safe, respectful learning environment
• Maintain positive relationships with students
• Document observations for each session in the session notes
