Job Title: Designer

Location: Fully Remote from any US Based Location

Reports To: Director of Product Design and Development

Job Overview:

We are seeking a creative and technically skilled Designer to develop of inspiring, accessible, and high-quality hand-knit and crochet designs. In this role, you'll shape seasonal collections that celebrate our yarns, support our maker community, and align with brand values. From concept to finished sample, your work will champion craftsmanship, innovation, and inclusivity across both knitting and crochet designs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the design team to create new design ideas and thematic inspiration for seasonal collections and free patterns in alignment with the creative direction.
  • Support the Design Manager in executing the seasonal design collections by writing patterns in both knitting and crochet, participating in tech editing and proofing processes, and communicating with sample makers.
  • Assist with seasonal photography by providing ideas and feedback on creative direction and create shot list for the shoot.
  • Provide assistance with seasonal photoshoots by providing garment preparation.
  • Research trends in the industry and provide recommendations to the Design Manager.
  • For the seasonal consumer launch, proof the website page creation on Berroco.com and Ravelry.com and review for accuracy.
  • Manage Berroco PDF Library, coordinating pattern updates when corrections are needed.
  • Create content for Berroco's social media channels by writing blog posts, taping how-to videos, and providing ideas to the marketing team for additional social media promotions.
  • Design pieces for editorials and top Berroco retailers, as needed.
  • Assist with product development and selection by sample swatching and providing feedback.
  • Assist the creative and marketing teams with proofreading copy for email marketing, sales materials, and other materials as needed.
  • Host make-alongs for seasonal promotion, as needed.
  • Attend industry events and trade shows, as needed.
  • Maintain accurate creation and update of yarn labels.
  • Manage and answer pattern support questions.

Requirements

Required Skills & Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, Knitwear Design, or related field.
    • 2+ years of experience in knit and crochet design, ideally within a yarn company.
    • Strong portfolio showcasing original knitwear designs across various gauges and techniques.
    • In depth knowledge of yarns, knit structures, and garment construction.
    • Strong technical expertise in both knitting and crochet, including pattern grading, charting, and editing.
    • Proficiency in creating mood boards, color stories, and project briefs.
    • Understanding of yarn construction, weights, fiber types, and appropriate applications for knit and crochet.
    • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, and pattern formatting/charting tools.
    • Exceptional communication skills and a collaborative, inclusive approach to design leadership.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines with attention to detail.
    • Passion for inclusive sizing, accessibility, and creative education.

The starting pay range for this position is:

$55,000-$65,000 per year.
