Overview

The Principal Software Applications Specialist is a technical expert within the designated Information Technology area of responsibility. This role develops and applies advanced concepts and approaches to complex IT problems, strategically designing, deploying, and monitoring enterprise solutions and architectures while ensuring efficiency and availability.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction within the area of expertise, including conceptualizing, organizing, planning, anticipating business needs, and executing large complex business units or enterprise-level IT technical solutions.
  • Evaluate effectiveness and efficiency of existing technologies; design and facilitate strategies for improvement or replacement.
  • Analyze complex business needs and recommend technical solutions.
  • Partner with IT leadership and team members to identify solutions that meet business goals and support implementation.
  • Participate with cross-functional team members in issue identification, process impacts, and solution development discussions to optimize end-to-end solutions.
  • Apply comprehensive knowledge of IT best practices in high complexity and scope situations.

Education / Years of Experience

  • Accredited four (4)-year degree or global equivalent in applicable field and thirteen (13) years of work-related experience, or a combination equal to seventeen (17) years if non-degreed.

Skills / Experience

  • Ability to communicate effectively with management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors.
  • Job-related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job.
  • Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state / province, and federal /national statutes and guidelines.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Accredited degree or global equivalent in Business, Management, Computer Science, Engineering, Systems Analysis, or related discipline.
  • Literate in multiple business domains.
  • Ability to communicate and persuade all management levels and thrive in a cross-functional environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills in areas such as teamwork, facilitation, and negotiation.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Excellent analytical, technical, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Experience in IT strategic development, project management, and/or process development.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate with IT organizations in solving business problems.

Other Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance
