Sealevel Systems, Inc., is an industrial computer design and manufacturing company, providing rugged and reliable computing and I/O solutions to customers since 1986. Our story began with serial communication innovations and continues with I/O interfaces and cutting‑edge industrial computers – engineered and manufactured at our headquarters in Liberty, South Carolina.

The company is seeking a Hardware Engineering Manager for the Engineering Department with a particular focus on high‑end computing chip‑down design of x86 and ARM CPUs. The position will lead a team that develops next‑generation industrial computing and input/output products for a wide range of applications, including industrial, defense, energy, transportation, public safety, and other critical industries.

Reporting Relationship

The position reports to the Director of Engineering and manages a group of Engineers.

Objectives and Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of Engineers on a variety of projects by managing people and resources, schedules, and projects, and partnering with the Director of Engineering.
  • Possess working knowledge of new product development, including project management, product definition, cost estimation, schematic design, prototype implementation, and validation testing.
  • Support the Director of Engineering with special projects or initiatives in the department.
  • Lead continuous improvement activities for the team, such as Root Cause Counter Measure, identifying opportunities for improvement, and determining needed tools or resources.
  • Drive collaboration across the Engineering team by promoting internal collaboration and working with partners in different areas of the company.
  • Ensure timely completion of key responsibilities such as design reviews, specification documents, and departmental deadlines.
  • Partner with the Director of Engineering and Human Resources to address performance concerns or development opportunities within the team.
  • Aid in the resolution of hardware/software compatibility issues.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing to ensure a smooth transition from design to production.
  • Assist the Technical Support Department with resolving customer and product issues.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Engineering.

Competencies

  • Must have managed direct reports in a similar technical role.
  • Hands‑on experience or working knowledge of UEFI BIOS, Embedded Controllers and other embedded firmware commonly used in x86 embedded systems, common computer expansion buses, and embedded communication buses and devices.
  • Familiarity with high‑speed digital design principles to ensure good signal integrity, high compatibility, and high reliability of product designs, embedded MCUs, and FPGA devices.
  • Organized and detail‑oriented with a strong focus on quality and execution.
  • Self‑motivated.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and/or Business related field.
  • 5+ years experience in a similar environment in a Supervisory/Management role, preferably in embedded systems or industrial computing.
  • PC skills in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
