About this opportunity
Plans, develops, manages and directs the daily operations of The Salvation Army Red Shield Youth Center in accordance with its vision and mission. Areas of responsibility include overall management, Center‑wide safety, planning, vision, and leadership for all aspects of the Center, including programs and services, finance/budget management & reporting, resource development, human resources management, center member services, communication, and advisory organization engagement. Under the direction and assignment of the Area Commander/Corps Officer, the Executive Director assumes a leadership role within the community, partnering with businesses, foundations, government officials, other nonprofits, and supporters. The Executive Director works with Area Commander/Corps Officer to establish vision, policies, strategic focus, priorities, and the general scope of services.
Key Responsibilities
- Develops strategic resource development plans to generate avenues through a variety of resources development and fundraising techniques that achieve diversified funding streams that adequately fund operational expenses as well as cash reserves for unanticipated costs, repairs, maintenance, etc.; ensures the annual Center budget is funded and Center has adequate cash flow and reserves.
- Develops and maintains relationships and a regular cadence of communication with Advisory Board/Council, funders, and key stakeholders to further the mission of the Center and to drive financial support/investment to the operations of the Center.
- Develop strategic alliances with community leaders and local officials; develop collaborative partnerships with other youth serving Centers, youth, parents, families, funders, and community Centers.
- Creates and maintains positive relationships with and respect for staff, donors, vendors, partners, and community; represents the Center in a positive and professional manner; networks within the community.
- Designs, implements and evaluates the annual implementation of the strategic plan for the Center and collaborates the same effectively with approved stakeholders.
- Leads and strengthens Programs Development and Operations Driving Growth, Impact; ensures the delivery of high‑quality services while managing current and future growth; supports and motivate Center's staff.
- Leads the implementation of sound safety practices throughout programming; ensures that Center always complies with The Salvation Army Safe from Harm; ensures safety procedures are reviewed regularly, implemented, and inspected for compliance; ensures safety assessments and member feedback are reviewed and used to improve practices; ensures the timely reporting and follow up of incidents and accidents; ensures immediate action is taken to address any safety issues or concerns; ensures the enterprise has a culture of keeping all work areas in all facilities clean, safe and in good condition.
- Prepares and supports Center leadership in their role as leaders and managers of teams of workers; ensures regular and consistent review of staff performance to recognize, correct and address staff performance; ensures consistent and regular implementation of policy and procedure with all personnel; identifies and addresses potential discipline and guidance needs with staff; identifies and coach potential staff for advancement and growth opportunities.
What are we looking for in you
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and
- Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience with successful and impressive track record of operational leadership of multifunctional and decentralized teams, and sustaining business/nonprofit programs, with budget of $500,000.00–$1.5 M., or
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Position requires evenings and weekends as needed to supervise and respond to Center needs and requirements, includes meetings, phone calls, texts and emails as needed.
- Ability to drive an approved vehicle to transport youth center staff and members in a safe manner obeying all driving requirements and standards.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
This job is performed in a youth center environment and out in the community. Time is also spent at Red Shield Youth Center facilities similar to youth recreational facility or community center. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and at times loud. Work Centres are often located in low‑income areas and challenging neighborhoods.
Must be able to remain in a stationary position frequently. Position requires travel within the community and to participate in off‑site Center events. May require travel outside of the geographic area of Center location.
