Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled engineer to support the design, development, and qualification of small rocket propulsion systems for advanced weapon platforms. This role focuses on tactical‑scale solid rocket motors used in missiles, guided munitions, and other defense applications. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in solid propellant design, case/nozzle integration, and the unique challenges associated with compact propulsion systems operating in demanding environments.

This position is hands‑on and mission‑driven, requiring close collaboration with design, test, and manufacturing teams to deliver propulsion solutions that meet stringent performance, safety, and reliability requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and analyze small solid rocket motors for tactical missile and munition systems, including propellant grain geometry, liner/insulation, case design, and nozzle integration.
• Conduct internal ballistics, thermal, and structural analyses tailored to compact, high‑performance weapon systems.
• Generate and maintain technical data packages (drawings, CAD models, specifications, analysis reports) per MIL‑STD and customer requirements.
• Support propellant formulation, casting, curing, and characterization processes in collaboration with energetics teams.
• Define and support ground testing (static firings, vibration, thermal cycling, aging) and evaluate performance data to verify motor designs.
• Lead or support design reviews, failure investigations, and corrective actions to ensure motor reliability and repeatability.
• Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are optimized for producibility, cost efficiency, and volume production.
• Ensure compliance with DoD, ITAR, and other federal regulations governing energetic materials and controlled technologies.
• Provide propulsion subject‑matter expertise for proposals, customer briefings, and program milestone reviews.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline (Master's preferred).
• 5+ years of demonstrated experience in design and development of solid rocket motors for tactical missile or munition applications.
• Proficiency in internal ballistics modeling, structural/thermal analysis, and grain geometry optimization.
• Experience with CAD and FEA tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, ANSYS, Abaqus, or equivalent).
• Knowledge of MIL‑STD requirements and DoD qualification practices for rocket propulsion systems.
• Strong documentation skills and ability to present technical material to internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD security clearance (U.S. citizenship required).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with insensitive munitions (IM) compliance and propellant energetics for tactical systems.
• Hands‑on experience with propellant processing (casting, curing, mixing) or motor assembly.
• Familiarity with missile/munition integration, launch environments, and system‑level trade studies.
• Prior experience supporting defense acquisition programs and government customers.
• Working knowledge of environmental, thermal, and aging effects on small rocket motors.
