Position Type: Hourly

Pay Range: $16.03 - $18.03

About This Opportunity:

Provides crisis intervention and case management/advocacy services to clients in residence at the Men's and Women's Emergency Shelter and CSRC recovery program beneficiaries. Guides and assists clients in developing measurable steps to address their causes of homelessness/poverty. Identifies and advocates with community resources to assist clients in successful completion of the service plan. Assists with conducting appointments for assistance in evaluating individual emergency need (crisis) and then processing qualifying benefits to members of the public. Ensures compliance with other organizations' policies and procedures (funding sources) as well as all The Salvation Army established policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides crisis intervention service to clients as needed; conducts comprehensive assessments with clients to identify the cause of the client's homelessness, needs and strengths. Develop a service plan to address issues identified in the assessment.
  • Conducts all required off-site inspections required of agency contracts in ensuring adequate transitional housing for Shelter clients.
  • Refers appropriate clients to house program and completes necessary documentation for clients to successfully be entered into that program and performs follow-up as instructed in the program guidelines.
  • Identifies community agencies that will assist clients in the successful completion of the service plan; advocates with the community resources to secure service that will assist clients in planned goals and objectives.
  • Maintains all required documentation to meet The Salvation Army, federal and funding sources guidelines.
  • Adheres to the strictest professional confidentiality standards regarding client's information; abides by The Salvation Army policies and procedures.
  • Cooperates with Social Services Director in all matters pertaining to services of clients; participates in bi-weekly supervision to discuss cases with Social Services Director; collaborates with Shelter monitors and dining hall staff in matters relating to managing Shelter clients.
  • Assist the Social Services Director and the HMIS Director in the preparation of all statistical and progress reports presented to the Area Commander, advisory organizations, annual reports, United Way, grants and contract agencies, and The Salvation Army Divisional/Territorial Headquarters.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of all program changes and requirements per The Salvation Army policies.

What Are We Looking For In You:

  • Associates degree from an accredited college or university in Human Services or related field, and
  • Two years' experience in advocating, addiction counseling or crisis intervention on behalf of at-risk families or adults, or
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Valid State Driver's License.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to think clearly and quickly to maintain control of client caseload. Ability to effectively and efficiently work on multiple cases at the same time without becoming frustrated or disorganized. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25lbs.) 5-10% of work time. Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Work is primarily performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in the weather or discomforts associated with noise, dirt, and the like. With sporadic traveling outside the office environment where there is opportunity for physical discomforts associated with weather, noise, dust, dirt and the like.
