The Class A Lineman Transmission is a skilled position in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical transmission systems. This position works at various locations. The position may also be required to travel to another state depending on customer demands. Essential functions include working safely while performing new construction, maintenance, or repair work of energized and de-energized transmission work. The position requires the ability to lead crew members in the absence of the Foreman, stringing overhead wire, setting poles and anchors, troubleshooting problems on transmission systems, and frequently working with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others. The position also involves maintaining company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order, performing rigorous physical labor, and being able to work outside, frequently in inclement weather.
The position requires proficiency in all aspects of transmission line work, obtaining knowledge of hot stick work on energized lines, and understanding and reading blueprints. The position also requires the ability to properly sag wire, lead crew in assembly and erection of structures to all heights, understand dead ending and sagging operations for all conductors, and execute hot line work on conductor systems. The position must be able to operate a digger derrick, obtain knowledge in bare hand work 44KV & 100KV, and be proficient in pole/tower climbing, all aspects of heavy lifting and rigging, and familiar with induced voltage and grounding procedures. The position also requires the ability to work at heights and/or confined spaces, properly install and remove PPE and cover up, and climb different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.) and possess the necessary tools to do so. The position understands how to phase out a line using phasing sticks, proper use of phasing sticks, and identify and locate puller and tensioner setups. The position is capable of planning safe work based on a job print or work order, obtain a one shot on a recloser, understand minimum approach distance, flag and tag procedures, perform basic bucket rescue/escape, conduct a pre-job or tailgate briefing, safely perform a reconductoring job, safely install and remove mechanical jumpers, and properly inspect rubber goods, cover, and PPE.
Minimum requirements include 5-year minimum of recent field experience, ability to read and communicate effectively in English, obtain a Commercial Driver's License permit within 60 days of employment, and a Commercial Driver's License is preferred. The position requires the ability to travel long distances on short notice, work for extended periods in various locations, lift in excess of 50 lbs, properly inspect rubber goods and PPE, work over-time when requested, and willingness to work outside of the normal work schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required for the position. The position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions but may be subject to one or more of the following atmospheric conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
