RDS will provide training and first‑hand knowledge of the advancement in robotic recycling combined with traditional methods.
Job Description
An applicant must have proven experience as the Head of Operations, Plant Manager, Operations Director or a similar role in a manufacturing, production, or distribution facility. The candidate must also be highly motivated, detail‑oriented, communicate effectively, and be a thoughtful leader and confident decision maker who helps the team develop, be productive and ensures profits rise.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Hire, train, counsel and terminate employees as necessary to ensure coverage of our customers and plant needs. Training includes position‑specific processes such as loading trucks, meeting bale specifications, etc. RDS provides training and system processes.
- Work within operating budget to support RDS' strategic objectives and manage the plant's P&L.
- Hold employees accountable to tasks required of them and follow up to ensure plant productivity. Provide a clear sense of direction and focus to employees. Monitor operations and trigger corrective actions as needed.
- Responsibility for production output, product quality and on‑time shipping.
- Plan, organize, direct, and run day‑to‑day operations to exceed our customers' and company's expectations by allocating resources effectively (personnel and equipment) to produce optimal results.
- Plan, organize and direct maintenance tasks in conjunction with the regional maintenance manager to maintain productivity and maximize machine operational time.
- Commit to and follow plant safety procedures including OSHA and DEQ guidelines (complete and submit required forms, etc.)
- Lead daily morning meetings, including conducting safety training (Lockout Tagout, etc.).
- Conduct incident/accident investigations and complete/submit necessary paperwork.
- Review equipment checklists daily to approve and forward to maintenance for scheduling work.
- Address employees' issues or grievances and work toward positive resolutions.
- Maintain active working relationships with corporate office and ensure they are aware of any non‑conformities.
- Participate in weekly operations calls to share the latest production management best practices and concepts.
- Maintain a flow of material from the plant, with the goal of having "zero" inventory (less than a truckload at any time).
- Where applicable, maintain driver employment files and vehicle files, as required by the Department of Transportation.
- Maintain DEQ reports and SWPPP files as required.
- Ensure all machinery operators are licensed within state laws and maintain communication with HR to ensure licensures are documented and maintained.
- Obtain necessary certification (if applicable) in recycling (paid for by company).
Skills & Qualifications
- Ability to create accountability and lead by example.
- Strong team building, decision‑making and people management skills.
- Proven managerial experience.
- Willing and able to learn how to operate plant equipment to instruct employees on proper usage – previous experience (loader, forklift).
- Adequate knowledge of business and management principles (budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation and human resources).
- Be knowledgeable of safety, quality, productivity, demand creation, inventory, and stewardship processes.
- Track changes to any local, state, or federal guidelines to ensure the plant follows them, adjusting plant operations as necessary.
- Superior analytical, problem‑solving, and cross‑functional collaboration/leadership skills.
Professional Experience with Technologies
Applicants should be comfortable with or willing to learn the following:
- Previous experience managing Mac, ChromeOS, Windows (client/server).
- Working knowledge of network hardware (routers, switches, WAPs) and LAN protocols and troubleshooting networking services.
- Basic knowledge of printer and scanner management.
- Software application support: GSuite, O365, Slack, Atlassian, Solidworks, TRUX, OpenVPN, Salesforce.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
The normal setting for this position is a physical environment, including weather extremes, noise, odors, general filth, etc.
- PPE Requirements – Standard PPE (gloves, glasses if working on machinery, steel toe shoes/boots, high‑visibility shirt or safety vest with reflective piping and long pants).
Job Safety Assessment (JSA)
- When in the facility, follow Job Safety Assessment guidelines for plant employees.
- Be aware of fire extinguisher locations in the plant.
- Have a strong awareness and knowledge of the facility's Emergency Management plan.
