About the Role
We're seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to lead engineering and design for heavy industrial projects (power, chemical, pulp & paper, metals, manufacturing). You'll drive scope from concept through IFC, coordinating across disciplines and vendors to deliver safe, code-compliant, constructible designs.
What You'll Do
Own electrical scope, budget, and schedule; plan and oversee design activities.
Develop and check deliverables: load lists, single-line diagrams, motor elementaries, electrical room layouts, grounding/lighting plans & details, power plans with raceway routing, cable lists, and equipment specifications.
Apply NEC/NFPA and hazardous area classification (Class/Div or Zone) to drive equipment selection and layouts.
Produce PFD/P&ID inputs, interpret process equipment lists, and align with GA drawings.
Lead interdisciplinary coordination; integrate with civil/structural, mechanical, process, and I&C.
Review vendor submittals; extract electrical requirements and resolve gaps.
Support field walks, data gathering, and construction/commissioning queries.
Build/maintain design schedules and logic ties with other disciplines.
Lead and mentor electrical engineers/designers; perform QA/QC of calculations and drawings.
What You'll Bring
B.S. in Electrical Engineering (ABET); ability to obtain P.E. is required.
10+ years in consulting/industrial electrical design.
Deep knowledge of NEC, power distribution (MV/LV), equipment specs, hazardous locations, grounding, and lighting.
Demonstrated experience turning process information (P&IDs, equipment lists) into complete electrical scope.
Proven cross-discipline coordination and vendor interface skills.
AutoCAD and Revit proficiency; strong Word/Excel/Outlook.
Clear written/verbal communication; analytical, organized, and proactive.
Experience leading project teams and mentoring junior staff.
Willingness to travel to client sites for field data and reviews.
Nice to Have
Prior EPC/EPCM or owner's engineer experience in heavy industry.
Familiarity with arc-flash studies, short-circuit/coordination, and construction support workflows.
