Responsibilities



  • Assist in maintaining grounds, roads, and sidewalks, including seeding, fertilization, and treatment of lawns (A), fertilization, pruning, spraying, and general care of landscape plants and trees (B), mowing grass, edging walks, etc. (C), removal of debris and maintaining storm drainage (D), replacing dead or damaged landscape plants (E), and removal of ice, snow, and other debris from sidewalks (F).

  • Assist in landscaping and irrigation implementation: prepare sites, layout and install plants, trees and sod (A), repair and replace broken sprinkler heads and lines (B), remove dead or damaged tree portions that do not require a tree specialist (C), and, under supervision, spray for weed control. Also maintain parking lots by patching potholes, painting lines and stencils, and maintaining signage around roads and parking lots.

  • Make daily inspections of irrigation systems for leaks or sprinkler malfunctions and report major issues to the supervisor.

  • Perform daily preventive maintenance and minor repairs to grounds equipment and any specialized vehicles being used.

  • Operate specialized vehicles for disposal of debris generated by grounds maintenance such as limbs, grass clippings, and construction debris.


Location


This position is located on the Midlands Technical College Airport Campus.


Minimum and Additional Requirements



  • High School Diploma and two (2) years of directly related work experience; or a 10th grade education and three (3) years of related work experience.

  • Must have and maintain a valid SC Driver's License.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Knowledge of plant care, irrigation systems, and maintenance/repair practices.

  • Proficiency in using trade tools and equipment related to landscaping and grounds maintenance.

  • Familiarity with typical grounds equipment use and routine maintenance.

  • Knowledge of OSHA safety policies and procedures as they relate to landscaping work.

  • Certified Landscaper of South Carolina is preferred.
