Description:

Sealevel Systems, Inc., is an industrial I/O design and manufacturing company, providing customizable and interoperable I/O solutions to customers since 1986. Our story began with serial communication innovations and continues with I/O interfaces and cutting-edge industrial computers engineered and manufactured at our headquarters in Liberty, South Carolina. The company is seeking a Controller to lead the day-to-day operations of the accounting department and collaborate with the Chief Financial Officer to manage, execute, and report in support of our overall strategy:

  • Be an integral part of Sealevels continued growth and actively contribute ideas across the organization
  • Demonstrate a willingness and aptitude for critical thinking and application to improve processes, procedures, and overall company contributions
  • Outline and implement metrics that define goals and align with the overall strategy and vision
  • Manage and grow all resources available to the accounting department including internal team members as well as external partners

Reporting Relationship

This position will report to the Chief Financial Officer.

Objectives & Responsibilities

Management Responsibilities:

  • Manage all accounting operations on a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis (for example, billing, A/R, A/P, GL, cost accounting, inventory accounting, tax, closing processes, and revenue recognition).
  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Manage and comply with local, state and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Manage outsourced functions, including audit firm, business insurance and shared service benefits.
  • Protect company assets by establishing, monitoring and enforcing internal controls.
  • Manages financial staff job results by coaching, counseling and disciplining employees: planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
  • Demonstrate excellent sales and communication skills
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Self-motivated.
  • Proficiency in using CRM and basic business programs (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)

Managing Transactions

  • Ensure that accounts payables are paid in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that accounts receivable are promptly collected.
  • Ensure payroll is processed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions

Reporting

  • Issue timely and complete financial statements.
  • Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations.
  • Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics.

Communication

  • Share and reinforce goals and objects and associated expectations, tasks, and deadlines to the accounting team.
  • Provide ongoing feedback and clear direction to improve departmental efficiency.
  • Inform senior leadership and the management team of relevant activities and metrics.

Goals

  • Establish goals for each member of the accounting team, work jointly to identify steps to achieve, and report regularly on performance
  • Establish goals for the accounting department in partnership with the CFO and report quarterly metrics to the management team
  • Superlative communication, presentation, and people skills, verbal and written
  • Extremely organized and detail-oriented
  • Experience managing an accounting team to maximize each members skillset
  • Budget management and reporting

Previous Experience

  • Bachelors degree in accounting/finance or related field and eight years of relevant experience
  • Experience managing a team
  • Software & Programs: MS Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with ERP Systems

Preferred Experience

  • Software & Programs: NetSuite, HubSpot, BigCommerce
