Job Description Summary
The Addictions Trainer/Mentor serves as a Certified Clinical Supervisor for students in accelerated internship pathways preparing for Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor ( CADC ) or Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist ( LCAS ) credentials. This role provides clinical supervision, professional mentoring, and targeted coaching to advanced studentsthose who have completed prior clinical degreesto strengthen professional competence, master required content, prepare for credentialing exams, and successfully complete specialized, field-based internships.
Minimum Qualifications
Required:
- Masters degree or higher in a human services field (counseling, social work, rehabilitation studies, psychology, substance use counseling, or related).
- Current, active credential from NCASPPB as a Certified Clinical Supervisor ( CCS or CCS -I).
- Active credential as a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist ( LCAS ) or equivalent recognized by NCASPPB .
- Minimum of three years of post-licensure practice in substance use/addictions counseling.
- Demonstrated experience in clinical supervision, mentoring, or training of addiction professionals.
- Strong knowledge of NCASPPB standards, CADC and LCAS credentialing requirements, and ethical guidelines.
- Availability for flexible scheduling, including daytime or evening supervision sessions.
- Proficiency in documentation, case review, and use of digital platforms (e.g., Microsoft Office, Zoom, learning management systems).
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred:
- Five or more years of direct clinical practice in addictions counseling.
- Experience supervising students, interns, or entry-level professionals in addictions or behavioral health settings.
- Familiarity with exam preparation strategies for CADC / LCAS credentials.
- Demonstrated ability to foster professional resilience and growth among emerging clinicians.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following and other duties as assigned.
Clinical Supervision
- Serve as the assigned Certified Clinical Supervisor ( CCS or CCS -I) for students completing internships in the accelerated pathway.
- Provide clinical supervision in accordance with North Carolina Addiction Specialist Professional Practice Board ( NCASPPB ) requirements which may include observation, case review, skills assessment, and documentation of supervision hours.
- Monitor and track adherence to NCASPPB requirements for supervision frequency; schedule and facilitate make-up sessions when necessary to ensure full compliance.
- Deliver coaching and mentoring that enhances professional identity, ethical decision-making, and competence in addictions counseling.
- Guide students in mastering required practice domains and competencies aligned with CADC and LCAS credentialing standards.
- Support students in preparing for NCASPPB required credentialing exams, reinforcing applied knowledge and clinical readiness.
- Provide constructive feedback, individualized learning goals, and progress evaluations based on professional standards.
- Model and uphold ethical, legal, and clinical practice standards as established by NCASPPB and relevant professional codes.
- Collaborate with program leadership to ensure high-quality supervision that meets regulatory and accreditation requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of supervision activities, including hours, competencies addressed, and evaluations.
- Contribute to a supportive, inclusive environment.
Advanced Mentoring and Coaching- Facilitate a mix of group supervision and individual supervision sessions.
- Actively engages with assigned students providing best practices for coaching, mentoring, and career advising.
- Adheres to clinical and ethical standards of institution, industry, and licensing/credentialing boards.
- Using multiple technology tools for engaging with, coaching, mentoring, and clinically supervising students in our Addictions and Recovery program
