Responsibilities

General Responsibility: Provide various forms of active shooter and Complex Coordinated Terrorist Attack (CCTA)-related training; plan and conduct partial or complete training courses related to response and recovery; perform tasks supporting local law enforcement (LE) training; perform tasks associated with providing training to requesting agencies in the state of South Carolina and other locations as assigned. Work with other SLED Office of Homeland Security program areas. Act as a liaison for SLED to educational organizations, churches, businesses, first response agencies, and all other potential training partners in the state of South Carolina and with parties from all other partnering states and entities.

  • Conduct active shooter and CCTA training and threat assessment assignments. Demonstrate comprehensive expertise and knowledge of all forms of active shooter training and response techniques and all facets of the CCTA program area. Manage and meet strenuous scheduling requirements involving travel and logistical coordination.
  • Maintain the SC School Safety Center and all equipment, including asset management, tracking, inventory, and maintenance. Maintain inventory control, logistics tracking, and other aspects of program support, especially at the SC School Safety Training Center.
  • Support local law enforcement and first responder agencies regarding active shooter or CCTA programs. Act as a positive liaison among Law Enforcement authorities on the local, state and federal level by gathering information pertaining to the assignment and coordinating information and ideas with other agencies. Perform duties professionally under physical and mental stress and demonstrate sound judgment and decision making skills on all assignments. Demonstrate commitment to the Division and public safety by providing consistently professional and thorough training to all requesting agencies and parties. Regularly interact with leadership from organizations around the state and country.
  • Review all types of current and future active shooter training materials that may benefit the state of South Carolina, visitors, and training partners. Write, edit, and implement multiple forms of training courses, including edits for content of existing material.
  • Perform additional duties as required by SLED, CCTA, and Office of Homeland Security program areas.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university and seven (7) years of law enforcement experience.
  • Must be currently certified as a Class I Basic Law Enforcement Officer from the SC Criminal Justice Academy, or as a currently certified law enforcement officer from another state and willing to attend/capable of attending the SC Criminal Justice Academy (SCCJA) to receive SC certification.
  • Must be a qualified instructor in at least three (3) of the following: ALERRT I TTT, CRASE TTT, LASER TTT, PACOP TTT, SCAASCAT TTT, AAIR TTT, TEEX CRASE TTT, rescue task force concepts, Reunification Instructor, AS for Businesses, AS for Schools, AS for Telecommunications, ALICE Instructor, Stop the Bleed, hemorrhage control, or similar courses/combination of experience.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be able to establish strong, positive working relationships with partners with the ability to define problems and coordinate resolutions.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be able to work long hours and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to travel extensively, including out of town, out of state, and overnight travel as necessary.
  • Must live within a 50 mile radius of SLED HQ.
  • Fire, EMS, or K9 training experience desired.
  • Previous experience with the South Carolina Active Shooter Training Program.
