Description:

The Medical Scribe provides documentation and clerical support to the provider about patient encounters. This role is critical to improving the efficiency, accuracy, and quality of patient care by ensuring thorough and timely medical record documentation.

Adequate chart recording and data entry, knowledge in medical insurance, CPT coding administrative responsibilities including but not limited to prior authorizations, creating and sending referrals and letters, scheduling appointments, treatment planning, and following up with patients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Supports the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the Practice. Adheres to safety policies and procedures in performing job duties and responsibilities.
  2. Communicates effectively with patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers.
  3. Follow up as needed with patients and Physicians via phone, email, letter & referral.
  4. Reviews schedule at least one week in advance and prepare as necessary, including to continue to focus on a productive schedule
  5. Accurately and efficiently document patient histories, physical exams, procedures, and other clinical information in the electronic medical record (EMR)
  6. Ensure documentation meets regulatory and compliance standards.
  7. Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
  8. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of medical coding, payer rules, and compliance regulations.
  9. Complies with all OSHA and office policies and procedures.
  10. Performs financial overview.
  11. Monitor outstanding accounts receivable and follow up on unpaid or denied claims.
  12. Work directly with insurance companies, patients, and internal staff to resolve billing discrepancies.
  13. Responds in a timely manner to meet the needs of the patient and the physician.
  14. Performs other duties as directed.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT/ICD coding, and insurance claim processes.
  • CPR certification required
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and multitasking skills.
  • Dental experience, Proficiency with EMR and practice management software.
