*Primary Function/General Purpose of Position*
The Perfusionist is responsible for operating extracorporeal circulation equipment during any medical situation where necessary to support or replace a patient's cardiopulmonary, circulatory, or respiratory function. This role ensures the safe management of a patient's physiological and metabolic needs by maintaining adequate oxygenation, blood flow, and temperature control.
*Essential Job Functions*
* Operate and monitor the heart-lung machine and extracorporeal circulation equipment during open-heart, cardiovascular, or other surgeries.
* Manage physiologic functions including blood flow, gas exchange, anticoagulation, fluid balance, and temperature regulation.
* Prepare, assemble, and test perfusion equipment prior to procedures to ensure safety and accuracy.
* Assist in procedures involving ventricular assist devices (VADs), intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP), extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), and other circulatory support systems.
* Monitor patient's physiological and metabolic parameters during surgery and adjust perfusion support as needed.
* Document perfusion activities, patient parameters, and any deviations in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
* Maintain inventory, perform quality assurance, and ensure compliance with safety standards for perfusion equipment and supplies.

*Licensing/Certification*
BLS certification is preferred upon hire and required within 30 days and/or prior to independent patient care
Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) credential from the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP) (required)
*Education*
Bachelor's degree in Perfusion Technology or related field (required)
Master's degree (preferred)
*Work Experience*
1 year of clinical patient care experience (preferred)
