Charleston County Public Works Department is looking for a highly motivated, qualified individual to join our team! The successful candidate will supervise subordinate leaders and manage resources for construction and maintenance projects by coordinating equipment and multiple crews engaged in Stormwater infrastructure operations; and perform directly related work as required.

Duties and Responsibilities

This role involves both office and field responsibilities, with a primary focus on supervising drainage maintenance and construction activities, including chemical grout injection work. The position requires strong leadership, coordination, and communication skills to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality operations.
• Supervise and coordinate drainage maintenance, construction, chemical grout injection, and repair projects in accordance with Public Works field standards.
• Work closely with first-line supervisors to schedule and oversee daily tasks, ensuring timely and effective completion.
• Maintain Charleston County properties and drainage infrastructure to safe, functional standards.
• Train, cross-train, and mentor employees in all aspects of their work responsibilities, including performance management and professional development.
• Prepare job cost estimates, track project expenses, and review invoices.
• Collaborate with other agencies, contractors, and stakeholders as needed.
• Promote and enforce workplace safety practices.
• Participate in emergency preparedness, response, and recovery operations.
• Communicate with citizens regarding drainage concerns and ensure appropriate follow-up.
• Provide the Field Operations Manager with input on construction and maintenance activities, work methods, equipment needs, and employee training.
• Perform other duties as assigned in alignment with the position's purpose.
• Be available to report during hazardous weather or emergency conditions.

Minimum

Minimum Qualifications

Associates Degree in Civil Engineering or related field, 5 to 7 years of progressively responsible experience in a related field to include 3 to 5 years of supervisory experience; OR any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Must have knowledge of Stormwater drainage principles, equipment operations, and related fields. Valid South Carolina Driver's License is required.
