Location: Duncan, SC

Description: Our client is currently seeking an Assistant Materials Manager

Role Overview

The Assistant Materials Manager is responsible for managing material, transportation, and inventory needs of the plant. Accountable for meeting monthly goals and analyzing performance, while administering the department efficiently and cost-effectively.

The Role

1. Establish database parameters for Material Requirement Planning (MRP) and related systems.
2. Maintain practices, procedures, and documentation to control supplier releases, shipments, inventory, storage, and customer shipments.
3. Manage schedule variations and recover freight costs as needed.
4. Oversee accuracy and integrity of materials record-keeping by subordinates.
5. Monitor supplier performance for quality and delivery standards.
6. Manage Bill of Material (BOM) database updates and performance.
7. Minimize inventory levels and submit obsolescence claims when appropriate.
8. Maintain customer and supplier relations, including delivery performance.
9. Review subordinate performance for training and development.
10. Document and manage supplier delivery performance.
11. Manage daily Planning Reports.
12. Ensure compliance with all IATF requirements.

Material Handling & Safety Responsibilities

1. Operate and maintain material handling equipment safely.
2. Ensure licensing and testing for equipment operators.
3. Maintain storage and racking safety standards.
4. Properly maintain material handling and dock equipment.
5. Document safety incidents and corrective actions.
6. Supervise Material Floor Supervisors and handlers.
7. Establish receiving, shipping procedures, and container tracking.

Optimization & Cost Reduction Goals

1. Set goals for reducing packaging, handling, and purchase expenses.
2. Improve tools for managing material handling efficiency.
3. Measure downtime caused by handling and replenishment.
4. Reduce transportation, packaging, and inventory costs.
5. Manage truckload utilization and report potential freight savings.
6. Ensure compliance with customs procedures.

HSE Responsibilities

1. Participate in safety and environmental investigations.
2. Complete safety audits for team members.
3. Report accidents and emergencies, informing supervisors.
4. Support safety and environmental goals.
5. Promote EMS compliance and conservation efforts.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
2. 3-5 years in Materials Management.
3. SAP experience.
4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
5. Ability to manage multiple priorities.
