Job Summary

This Executive Pastry Chef role at Furman University is responsible for leading all pastry operations while overseeing overall kitchen functions. The position directs the preparation of meals and scratch-made, high-end desserts in alignment with corporate programs and guidelines. Ideal candidates will have a strong background in high-volume pastry production, catering, and team leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plans regular and modified menus in accordance with established standards

  • Trains kitchen staff in pastry techniques, safe food handling, equipment use, sanitation, and food safety protocols

  • Maintains cleaning and maintenance schedules for all work areas and equipment

  • Manages food and supply inventory within budget while ensuring availability of needed items

  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local sanitation regulations and internal procedures

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • A.S. degree or equivalent culinary experience

  • 3–5 years of progressive pastry/kitchen management experience

  • Strong background in high-volume pastry production and made-from-scratch desserts

  • Skilled in high-end catered dessert preparation

  • Thorough knowledge of food and catering trends, quality control, sanitation, cost management, and presentation

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Outlook, email, and internet tools

  • Extensive catering experience a plus

  • Experience in complex, high-volume foodservice operations is highly desirable

  • ServSafe certification preferred

  • Open availability required
