Sr Environmental Health Safety Specialist

The EHS Specialist is responsible for directing the development, implementation, and evaluation of critical Safety processes, programs, and procedures to achieve goals, objectives, and continuous improvement related to safety and health at the Greer, SC facilities.

The EHS Specialist has the responsibility to engage the site leadership teams to ensure safety and health excellence, as well as provide information and guidance for activities relating to the site-wide safety objectives and to ensure that safety site goals are aligned with relevant business unit and corporate EHS goals. The EHS Specialist works in a team environment where accountability for injury/illness prevention, EHS compliance assurance and asset protection is incumbent on both the leadership team and the individual.

Essential Functions

  • Facilitate site-specific health and safety management systems designed to reduce employee injuries and illnesses.
  • Ensure that occupational illnesses and injuries are immediately reported, thoroughly investigated, and promptly addressed, consistent with established standards.
  • Recommend, develop, and implement improvements in policies, procedures, and equipment to prevent incidents and injuries.
  • Lead the safety committee.
  • Assist in and support compliance with site regulatory environmental permits (handling of universal) and provide compliance direction for environmental programs and permits, as needed.
  • Responsible for recordkeeping and reporting requirements under permitted environmental processes.
  • Manage all environmental related matters, regulatory agency contacts, and enforcement actions, under the oversight of Jadex Inc. corporate.
  • Operate, enhance, and maintain the environmental, health and safety management systems for the site in accordance with all state and federal guidelines.
  • Track and report EHS corrective actions from incident investigations and external evaluations.
  • Provide and direct plant environmental and safety training and annual compliance auditing.
  • Participate in the site capital planning including EHS review of capital projects, safety design reviews and environmental (New Source Review) evaluations of process/equipment changes at the site.
  • Implement wellness programs to meet site needs.
  • Provide support to the plants' culture of continuous improvement. Lead and participate in kaizen workshops to firmly insert EHS thinking in all new standards and procedures developed as a result of continuous improvement.
  • Actively participate as a member of the Leadership Team.
  • Provide 24-hour on-call response for medical and environmental emergencies. Coordinate all facility emergency response and site evacuation programs, including the design and execution of annual drills and management communication.
  • Inspect facility processes to detect existing or potential environmental, safety and health hazards, determine corrective or preventive measures and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented.
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships within the department, the Corporation and the community; maintain professional competence, knowledge and skill necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.
  • Perform such individual assignments as management may direct.

Required competencies and skills:

  • Applied knowledge of environmental, health and safety laws and regulations and ability to research specific compliance and regulatory rules across federal, state, EU and other international guidelines.
  • Certifications in environmental, health, and/or safety (e.g., ASP, CSP).
  • Knowledge and experience of OHSAS 18000 a plus.
  • Demonstrates a high concern for detail, accuracy, and compliance to company and corporate policies and procedures.

Required education:

  • Bachelor's degree in safety or environmental (or related) field (safety related is preferred)

Required Experience:

  • 5-10 years of related experience with injection molding, automation, and machine guarding.
  • Professional knowledge of federal standards (OSHA, EPA, DOT, CFR 1910, TSCA, SC Fire Code, NFPA standards) for the manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with regulatory filings and reporting.
