The School of Communication ( is housed in the College of Fine Arts and Communication. We enroll nearly 800 undergraduate and 100 graduate students. We offer a Bachelor of Science in Communication, and students can concentrate their studies in Communication and Media, Journalism, or Public Relations. We offer a Master of Arts and, for undergraduates, an Accelerated Master of Arts in Communication, with a concentration in Strategic Communication. We house a Center for Communication Excellence.
Job Duties
The School of Communication invites applications for a fixed-term faculty position as Teaching Instructor or Teaching Assistant Professor. This is a nine-month, full-time faculty position available Fall 2026. The successful candidate will maintain a 4:4 teaching load and engage in service to the unit, college, and/or university.
Primary responsibilities include: (1) teaching public speaking and other core courses in the School of Communication including but not limited to introductory courses in communication and mass media, and/or communication criticism; (2) syllabi development and collaborating with faculty on curriculum development; (3) engaging in service at the unit, college, and/or university levels; and (4) supporting student success through ongoing teaching activities and applied experience.
This position is contingent upon available funding.
Minimum Education/Experience
A master's degree in communication is required for appointment as a Teaching Instructor. Candidates with a Ph.D. in communication may be considered for appointment as a Teaching Assistant Professor. Qualifying degrees must be conferred and received from an appropriately accredited institution. Candidates must have demonstrated success teaching at the college or university level in introductory communication courses such as public speaking, introduction to communication, introduction to mass media, and/or communication criticism.
Candidates with significant experience teaching full time at the college and/or university level may be considered for appointment at the title of Senior Teaching Instructor, Master Teaching Instructor, Teaching Associate Professor, or Teaching Professor based on the nature of their experience.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
The School of Communication desires candidates who can demonstrate knowledge of trends in the communication discipline to prepare students for a competitive job market. Also preferred is experience teaching distance education courses and experience teaching upper-level courses related to communication, media, and/or strategic communication.
